Best battery for full-time boondocking: LiFePO4

If you're considering AGM's, I'm pretty happy with the Sun Xtender 224 ah series. As they're AGM's they're a bit pricey, but will last a long time.

For those in Cargo Vans... what's your preferred bed height?

As I had sound deadened, insulated, and built boxes over the wheel wells, the bed already had a minimum height. As the bed frame legs rest on the wheel well boxes, I made them long enough to accomodate the height needed for containers as well. Coincidentally, the bed height just happened to be...

    Let's talk Tires

I got four Coopers that were made for occasional off-road about 5000 miles ago. Bought them at Discount Tire and they do free rotations.

    cleaning solar panels

Solar modules are pretty tough, but then they have to be. They have to endure the elements for decades. As long as one doesn't get to crazy by using solvents or abrasives there shouldn't be a problem. I use water or water with a little ammonia and wipe gently with a long handled squeegee and...

I've been refilling the 1 lb bottles for some time and haven't had any problems. It's save a lot of money.

What do you people do while living in your van?

I live quietly... I read, listen to music, watch broadcast T.V. when available, surf the net, clean, organize, and think. As well as putter and do menial things. Outside the van I like to take long walks. On the other hand, some things I don't like to do are interacting with people unless it's...

How long did it take you to get used to this lifestyle?

Me too... I found it to be natural.

    Paper plates

As am alone, I eat out of the pan used for cooking the meal. Minimal clean-up or waste.

Serious illnesses while living in van?

I've had it coming out of both ends a few times while in the van and fortunately could use a bucket or spew on the ground. If it's not a 911 situation, all one can do is tough it out. Might be a good idea to keep Immodium on hand as a Just in Case.

How should I insure my Van ?

In California a vehicle can be put in non operating status. The status prohibits its use and no insurance is required. Motor vehicle laws vary from state to state, so you'd need to ask your DMV if the status is available.

    Does Your Conscience Bother You?

I have a Sliding Scale... I'm both honest and loyal to friends and family, treat strangers with indifference or am opportunistic, and am ruthless when dealing with an enemy. So no, my conscience doesn't bother me.

Traveling alone, ever worry about getting sick?

We all go at some point... Might as well be there as any where.

Where and what brand solar panel did you buy

I chose the Kyocera mostly because of how strong the frame is. The panels take a beating because of wind buffeting and thought the Kyocera would last longer. As for output, 245 watts is plenty for My needs in Arizona.

Where and what brand solar panel did you buy

One Kyocera 245 Watt panel from Northern Arizona sun and wind.

Olympian Wave 3 on sale on Amazon

I forgot to mention in an earlier post that keeping dust away from the Wave 3 is very important. Dust and other particulates damage the platinum catalytic surface and shorten its life. I bought the cover for mine though one could probably be made easily enough.

    the Stock Market

I'm holding off getting back in the Market till the G20 thing shakes out... Europe isn't looking to healthy and might cause the Bears to come out of hibernation.

    the Stock Market

Don't think commodities of any sort are a good idea with the dollar strengthening.

    Reflectix as removable window insulation

Been doing that for years and it's helped keep the van warmer in cold weather as well as privacy. There are some proviso's however... Heat conducts through exposed interior sheet metal readily, so if you have a lot of it then your van will get pretty cold regardless. Depending on how cold it...
