Can a vac sealer be powered by solar panel system?

I'm just wonder if I can power a vac sealer machine using my solar panel system. Here are the specifics of the vac sealer machine:  Electrical Frequency50Hz - 60Hz Input Power110W This vac sealer...

How do I clean an inverter safely?

My inverter is sparking sometimes due to dust on the inside copper wiring. I'd like to open up the inverter and clean it. My question is; how do I stop all power to the inverter? It's a 300 watt pure sine wave inverter - 12DC - 240vAC.

Achieving a long range WiFi connection

A lot of public WiFi areas in my country are located in busy or inconvenient areas.  Sometimes I can only use public WiFi for short sessions because my van is stuck in the sun and it heats up like an oven.  If I try to move 100 metres to some shade I lose the connection. Basically I'm looking...

My solar panel system shut down/lost all power

I have a 300 watt pure sine wave inverter, a MPPT controller, a 160 watt single solar panel, and a LiFeP04 battery. This morning at 4AM I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep, so I decided to go on the internet, 5 minutes later my whole solar panel system dies on me.  No power to the...

I just got kicked out of my boondocking spot

So I've been boondocking in the same spot every night for the past 3 weeks right on the beach. About 10 a'clock last night I get the knock at the door and it's a security woman who informs me that they have received a complaint about me free camping in this spot and asks me to move along. No...

Are there any charts that exist that show the R value of insulation?

I searched google and found nothing.  Is there anywhere I can get a chart that will show me the R value of different kinds of insulation? I'm looking for insulation with the highest possible R value and is relatively dense because I'm going to make a cooler/ice chest with good insulation. I...

Best device or method to refrigerate food?

What's the best device or method for keeping food cool?  I want to keep fish fillets cool for 9 - 36 hours. I have solar but it isn't enough to power a mini-fridge, not to mention I couldn't fit a mini-fridge in my van anyway. So what are other alternatives, if any, do I have for keeping fish...

Making a D.I.Y chilly bin with extruded polystyrene (XPS)

I have a small chilly bin and it is insulated around the sides but the top cover is not insulated.  I want to give it maximum insulation and I was thinking about doubling up with two sheets of extruded polystyrene (XPS) and putting that around the sides.  Also, rather than put expanding foam...

    Unusual behaviour from LiFePo4 battery

I pulled the fuse between the controller and panel so I can discharge the battery from 100% charged down to 30% charged. However, in the first two days it went from 100% to 74%, which is what I was expecting it to do, but then it went from 74% to 40% within one hour and down to 30% in the next...

CO detector keeps giving false alarms

It will randomly go off and give big reading above 200ppm.  I've even seen it as high as 400ppm. Nothing in a camper gives off CO apart from the camper it's self through exhaust fumes. Anyone else had problems with CO detectors giving false alarms?

Can I pull the fuse between the controller and panel?

I've got a 160 watt panel and a MPPT controller.  Between the two there is a fuse.  Because the solar panel system generates way more power than I can use per day, I would like to deplete it rather than have it hovering at around 98%-100% like it currently does.  Apparently having a LiFePo4...

Is it OK to boil a jug plugged into the inverter?

I know jugs use an enormous amount of power in a very short time frame, and I'm wondering if this could have a bad effect on my 100 AH LiFePo4 battery and 12v DC/240v AC inverter? because I heard that draining a battery very quickly is bad for LiFePo4 batteries.   Does anyone have any better...

Is it OK to keep charging when the LiFePo4 battery is 100% charged?

I have one 160 watt panel, a MPPT controller, 12V DC/240V AC inverter and a LiFePo4 battery. Should I pull the fuse between the panel and controller to stop it charging because it is already at 100%, or should I leave it and it will be OK?

How much heat can a LiFeP04 battery put up with?

On the instruction manual it says don't charge in temperatures exceeding 28C.  But that sounds rather low. It's coming up to summer here in NZ and it can get up to about that, so the temperature in an enclosed van will peak around 36C -38C.  The thing is I'm at work 5 days a week so I can't be...

Has anyone had any issues with terminal connectors coming loose?

There is a lot of vibration in a vehicle and a lot of bumps in the road, I imagine solar panel systems must get banged around a bit.  I was wondering if anyone had any problems with any terminal connectors/nuts/screws, etc coming loose anywhere on their solar panel system?

A fully charged LifeP04 battery - Now what?

The LiFep04 battery I received apparently came fully charged.  I read that LiFeP04 batteries can't be left in storage for more than a few days.  My LiFeP04 has been sitting around for about 2 months because I assumed it would have the appropriate amount of charge for storage. Due to storing it...

Attempting my first battery charging. I've got a question...

Everything is hooked up, all connections checked and secure, battery and inverter are grounded.  Now it's time to do my first charging session. LiFePO4 battery is brand new so it will obviously be charging from 0%. Everything is connected except the solar panel to the controller, obviously...

Do I need a bigger breaker?

I have a 30AMP breaker on 6 AWG cable between my battery and inverter. I'm wondering if I need a 50AMP breaker? My inverter is a 300 watt inverter, 12V DC/240V AC, it says peak power is 600 watts (I'm not sure what peak power means).   My battery is a LiFePO4: Nominal voltage: 12v Capacity...

What AWG for grounding a 300 Watt Inverter?

I mentioned on my other thread that I had a 100 Watt inverter, but I looked again and it's actually 300 Watts.  12v DC/240vAC and it says "peak power: 600 Watts".  But the inverter is actually 300 Watts. My question is; What size grounding cable should I use?  I have 6 AWG for grounding the...

Battery & inverter grounded to the same point on chassis?

Do I ground the battery and inverter to the same point on the chassis, or two different points? The battery grounding wire is 8AWG and the inverter grounding wire is 10AWG, I'm not sure if that information matters but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
