If your live release trap does not do the trick, try this.
If you know where it came from set a smooth plastic trash can next to the wall or stairs couch, where ever. Smear peanut butter and or bacon grease down the inside of the can. Wild adult rats can jump a few feet up the sides of the inside of the can, be prepared to shut the lid and take it outside a distance away. You probably have several and may only catch the juveniles.

This works because the rat or mouse dangles over to lick the inside of the cans goodies and falls in.
Outside, look for holes near stairwells, stair steps, etc. get old screen and crumple it up in the hole. Aluminum foil and brillo pads work for mice.
An adult rat can be very aggressive but it isn't likely to do anything other than run when released. Probably no diseases, the carry fleas and I doubt any plagues are in your area, don't know.
Ex and I owned a Critter Control franchise for 18 years and sold it when we divorced so I have a bit of experience in wild animal removal.
I'm sure Blkjak will come up with some appropriate clip art for this problem.
Dragonfly

A friend of mine had several dogs and kept dog food in a large plastic garbage can. He left the lid off and a 2x4 propped up onto it from the floor. Excellent mice catcher. Work for rats?

I have a humane trap that I can put bacon in no peanut butter. Its sad he is alone so he wants to play with my boys. I had a thought what if it is a girl? My boys wouldn't know what to do....I think LOL. Maybe thats why its so friendly with them? Thanks Dragon I was ready to put the boys in a armor suit thinking they are going to get something.

I found a small hole behind their cage. I went to clean out their bedding and moved it and found it, The trap is right there now. And as Blkjak says to be continued.....

Oh I like Blkjak ...cute. Nasty little bugger that making havoc of my evening... and perhaps my night?

First you like jak, and think he's cute. Then you call him a 'nasty little bugger'? That doesn't sound very nice...

Blkjak

But in what way are you making a havoc of her evening?

(I don't dare add a *grin* here...)

Stop pulling my leg!! BTW I think it left. Wt .....he doesn't like it here? All I know is that I haven't seen it for 2 days now.

Im thinking because rats are territoriality. Since my rats where here 1st they decided to move on. Im hoping!!

I had to use poison. Im not very proud of this but it was them or me. They were stealing my babies food by using their paws through the cage bars. 2 of them. They kept me up till wee hours in the morning and Im a wreck. Im amazed Im still working with out falling asleep.

I won't be able to see that until the morning. Once they are dead I will be putting moth balls around the area. There are so many bushes around my wee home that I wonder if I will be able to find it. My landlady knows. Shes paying for anything i pick up for this,

I can not believe how spooked I really am. I keep thinking every movement or shadow is one of them. LOL I think Im going to step on one of them or outside I think the cat has one and puts it near the door. Am I going crazy?
