We use a public laundromat also usually early morning when no one else is likely to be there. I wear a mask and gloves and spray disinfectant/ wipes and hit all the handles controls and folding tables. Then load the machines and wait outside to load dryers after spraying/wiping them down. If anyone comes in we fold at home after washing our hands I usually wipe down any surfaces on the car we may have touched. Probably unnecessary but it makes me feel better knowing rather than hoping.

Laundry was somewhat uneventful other than someone trying to take my clothes. Had to say  a couple times not to take my stuff which included a couple dresses and was a guy unloading the dryer into his basket. Who knew? I guess some doors swing both ways.  Then I had to find out if they had been sick at all, decided not to rewash the load after all and I ran the dryer again hoping to kill some germs that way.  Somewhat uneventful.

The great conjunction!!

Biggest one in 400 years or so!! (correction since 1623)

Makes me feel like I am in English class. Here is a link to how it looks in the evening sky, look early for this one. Maximum viewing tomorrow early evening but also visible now (east coast) and soon ( west coast).

I promised you a cookie recipe so here it is! Warning contains nuts.

Lepkuchen 2 cookies
Stir together in pan over slow heat:
2 Tablespoon honey (6 packets)
2 Tablespoon sugar (10 packets)
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice or both
Pinch salt (1/2 packet salt)
2 Tablespoons sliced almonds
1 Tablespoon oil or fat drippings
Heat thru good Stirring, then cool.
Mix 2 tablespoon sour cream (2 packet) with pinch baking soda in a cup. This will foam up. Add this to cooled sugar and spice, Stir with a sturdy spoon. Make stiff with flour and leave the spoon in it. Cover and put in cool place overnight (the dash board).

In the morning, divide dough and take a little flour and  flatten 1/4 inch thick. Bake in slow covered pan for 15 minutes or 325 degree oven. For soft cookies do not overbake. Makes two large cookies.

Lepkuchen means "Honey Cookie" in a foreign language.

Using sour cream or yogurt and baking soda to rise a bread takes overnight in a cool place. This dough can be frozen and will still rise, makes a plain bread like naan. -c

Its 65 degrees with clouds in southern AZ, wind gusts to 21, might need goggles to keep the grit out. Feels colder than 65, wind chill is still in the 60s, but time to put some warm clothes on.

I took my own advice and took 2mg melatonin last night. Bout time I had a pass out zonk sleep. Yawn. Much better today.

71 degrees and sunny with a mackerel sky in southern AZ. Great sunset last night with all the high clouds around. Making bread today.  -crofter

Very windy today in S.E. AZ.

Can't work on my old VW.

Playing with the new puppy instead. She is very wary of the cat.

Sunny winter day here in southern AZ, and 69 degrees with a breeze. Getting my exercise routine going. Can anyone tell me what boxing day is?

Sickness stats still high, 20 percent positive test results today with AZ in the top three states for infection still. NM nearly out of ICU beds currently (4% left). Positive tests in cali are just less than 15 percent today, thankful for that. Florida, NM positive test results about 10 percent, WA, OR stats are much better than those I listed. Stay safe!

Just barely in the 60's today, a few clouds will make for a nice sunset.

Spent most of the day on the phone, fixing one phone via a chat thread and trying to return a call on the other one. Through a really abusive call center. You have to navigate the call center and then they transfer you to outer Siberia. They started calling me at 6am and I finally gave up a little after noon. I would not call them at all but is my pension administrator. After 6 months of slogging through paperwork, shot down by their abusive call center. Guess I will not get that done this year.

At least the phone is fixed, altho now it twitches every time I press a key.  Better luck next year.

The food for New Years is hot pretzels. For some reason, I was led to make fudge sauce instead.

1 cup heavy whipping cream
3/4 cup dutch cocoa powder, unsweetened
1/2 cup or less powder sugar or sugar substitute
Nuts or vanilla as desired

Warm the cream, just till you see a few bubbles at the edge. In a bowl, Sift the cocoa powder and powder sugar with a whisk till smooth. Add warm cream and continue whisking till smooth.

Serve as a sauce, or
Add nuts and spread on greased pan and
chill to firm into candy.
If any is left you can put it on the dash to chill.
Enjoy!

If you use the sugar substitute, you will want to whisk some (at least 1/4 cup) cornstarch in to hold the texture.

If you must have the fudge sauce and the pretzels, you can dip the pretzels and lay them out on a greased pan. Then you will have chocolate covered pretzels.

If you spare the sugar, this will be a semisweet dark chocolate, so blends nicely with the salt of the pretzels.

There will be no weight loss on this thread while we are eating homemade chocolates. But at least with only three ingredients they are basic.

Mmmm So good.

I wrapped mine in some wax paper. You could also roll them in coconut to tidy them up some.

Currently 72 degrees and breezy day in southern AZ. Looks to be a grand year of many gifts.

The VA says they will notify all their current registered people that use the VA for treatment. If it is done like their flu shots I usually get a notice about a month after they actually started giving them.

There is also family linking on the form, makes sense that family caregivers of very old people would get the shot at the same time. Looking forward to a sore arm on Monday.

I would not be surprised if it opens up to more people soon, now that the website is up for appointments.

Crofter, thanks for the info and the link. I registered and tried the zip codes for both Ehrenberg and Quartzsite. When I try to book an appointment it says there are none available within 50 miles, so I unchecked that box and still nothing. I'm in the 65+ group without serious preexisting conditions. Could that be it? I believe I fall in the third group in line with my stats. Thanks..

Edited to add: I did try a bunch of different dates

I got appointments about the third time through, along with someone who is 91 yo. Currently they are working on 85 yo plus, I am told. Also, the site was designed to be used with a laptop, though I made it through with my cell phone.

The pressure is on to get us vaccinated, so keep trying. Guv says anyone can get vaccinated in AZ and it is free.
To your health!  -crofter

Yo abbreviated for years old
Try Yuma on Monday, lots of spots open.

I fall into group 1b, they are not yet scheduling for group 1b.

Right now the state is only giving the vacvine to group 1a,

Try to figure out what group you are in., there are websites for that. If you cant figure it out just ask your health care provider or answer the questions on the portal.

Then closely, as in once or twice a day, watch the news for when they begin giving the vaccine to your group and then use the portal to get an appointment.

But it is a good idea to go to it and then create an account and get your password setup. You never know with websites if they will suddenly get slamed after a news story breaks. Today might be a good day for it. I had no trouble setting up my acvount but of c ourse I can not yet get an appointment anywhere in the state as my group is not yet eligible to get the vaccine. But I am in thev next group that will be scheduled so maybe sometime this month I will get an appointment. No one has yet announced when group 1b vaccines will be scheduled.
