They make a lot of mean sounding noises and come after you if a male runs across the road and his tail feathers catch under your tire and pull out in mating season. Never saw such a mean mad bird, after he tumbled and I had stopped he came after me, crazy bird, I immediately left.

Another nice day, 71 degrees and sunny in southern AZ, lows are in the 40's. Still doing stay at home, today is chore day.    -crofter

Hey Crofter.... I saw in another post where you put 1/2" plywood on the floor of your van. What did you put over it? I'm trying to decide on a floor covering for mine now.

I painted it with about three coats of polyurethane, and then gave it a week to dry and outgass.

I use the floor as a cargo area when I am working, so real flooring would not hold up. And the polyurethane provides a waterproof seal. Even so, after two years it is ready for a recoat.  -crofter

I like polyurethane, I've used it since around 1970.

I use a light colored oops paint (off white or tan) with a cheap runner carpet or rug so I can find things on the floor by simply pulling out the rug and dumping on a white plastic lid.

I’m getting old, I can’t see that far! Lol!!!

Rained in southern Arizona just after midnight. I put the rain gauge out in case it is more than a sprinkle. The air smells sweet and soft.  -crofter

Nice! That's why I don't want to add any insulation to my van roof, to get that sweet rain sound. Love the sound of rain on a tin roof, hopefully about the same on fiberglass lol.

I have 1.5 inches of polyiso on my roof and I can still hear the rain. now if it's a light drizzle I can't hear it. and yes I love the sound of rain on a tin roof. highdesertranger

Thanks for the song, Ernst. An eighth of an inch of precip in the rain gauge. Nice. Not an all night rain but can't complain.

Here's a link to storage ideas for a van, makes open tray storage on top of wheel wells. I did not box off  my lower wheel wells and left that odd space open to the garage for stuff like tent poles or something.

I did box off my upper wheel wells and that is where I store gallon water jugs and other things of that size. Still unable to find that old video with plans that I used. Still looking.   -crofter

Answers to the question, " Why take a cold shower or bath?"

1. I do not want to heat water.

2. I want to cool or refresh my body. Peppermint soap also helps giving you that tingly feeling, deterring bugs.

3. I want to kick up my metabolism and lose weight. Walking in the rain also works for this.

4. I want to acclimatize my body to lower temps, and live out of my van without running the heater.

Some more on this in the link to article below.

I started taking cold showers for reason number one, and continued for reason number two. Then I learned about the additional benefits.

Recomended time to dip in a cold river is about 15 minutes. I wear a quick dry thin layer so the temperature changes are slower, cos I'm old. Also others will not think you are both crazy and nekkid.

The reverse also works, using hot water or steam when you want to sweat, the principle behind the sauna. Both practices do work your body and your metabolism: you may want a rest after,  along with a snack.

The Wim Hof vid at the end vividly demonstrates that your mind is in control when it comes to endurance and what can be achieved with many seasons of practice. He calls it the inner fire and also the inner doctor that people have known about for thousands of years and only recently forgotton.

I like that this is an international community, so I decided to join and take the "fundamentals" class which is in english. Hope I can keep up with two online practice groups.

My other online practice group is:

another international community with the focus on a different part of the journey.
