Much to be said for the health benefits of sprouts.

When I lived in central Ohio I dated a young woman who ran a Health Food Store and learned the lore of seed sprouting from her.

I like Mung  and Alfalfa sprouts best.  Next to that is the Broccoli sprouts but they give off a slightly
obnoxious scent when they begin to sprout.

When I cook in the Wok I use the Mung's.   When I make toasted cheese sandwiches I like the Alfalfa
sprouts on those.   I keep the Broccoli seed to make sprouts for salads with bleu cheese dressing.  (so the smell of the sprouts gets lost in the dressing.   :p  (I haven't found an emot with a clothes pin on it's nose yet)

I thought the SproutPeople article on micro greens was good. Going out I run out of salad the first week, and sprouting micro greens for salad could extend the time between supply stops. All you need is the seeds and good quality water.

My mung bean grow in a jar consumed 16 ounces of water in a soak and three rinses. I expect to continue sprouting the mung beans for two more days, so water use will be about 48 ounces total (three water bottles).

In one day the mung beans have sprouted, just need to grow them out now. I will use two plates for the weight, and I can easily add water between the plates.

Also chive sprouts sound good for on the potato. You can grow out chives into a pretty herb, but mature chives can have a straw like texture wheras the chive sprouts will be tender.

Jury is still out on growing the stinky plants as sprouts in the confined area of a van. Maybe if I was parked for a week someplace I could grow them outside.

Here is another way to sprout mung beans, uses cheesecloth and covers the beans to keep them dark and sweet. The cheesecloth will save you some water.

Her channel also has some asian recipes and links to special sauce.

Now I finally know what a moonshadow is. Link to the song by Cat Stevens. -crofter

However the explanation of the song's meaning does not mention an eclipse, but talks about staying in the present moment. Some spiritual practices focus on the experience of joy in the present moment. Hmmm... Link below.

In the song it is Cat Steven's shadow cast by the moonlight onto the ground.

New years eve will have lots of moonlight if the weather is clear. You can howl the old year out and the new year in if you are. inclined to howling at tne moon.

After a gritty morning in the desert with cool wind gusts, it is now 49 and calm.

I noticed while watering my mothers flowers that only one person who passed by was wearing a mask, everyone else has thrown caution to the wind, embraced their death wish, and attempted to make ICU reservations for Christmas. Sorry, no can do, they are all booked up. Do you remember that story about the pregnant lady who gave birth in a barn because the inn was full? So yeah, like that.

They are calling it  a humanitarian crisis for Arizona (and I suspect everywhere). Well I am all in. A couple days ago my foot started hurting and after walking on it all day, now I can't walk on it. Last night it helped to walk on it, but no go right now. It does not show a bruise or anything, total mystery. I think this foot has an old injury that was pretty bad, maybe that is getting aggravated. Feels like a tendon goes over the foot right there and I have the most pain when I put weight on it. Hmmmm....

I predict another pain filled mostly sleepless night. Last night I finally dozed by playing church music nonstop. I have no sheep to count.

Let me know how the yellow onion goes. If it doesn’t work you can just make spaghetti.

Rest it and keep the weight off it. Is it swollen? Hope you get better soon.

A cut onion in your sock sounds weird, but is oh so cool without using ice and is said to draw out inflammation. This remedy from the 1500's is explained here:

https://www.leshiba.co.za/the-humble-onion-helps-treat-knee-sprain/

https://www.healthline.com/health/cold-flu/onion-in-sock

Did it work? Since I could not go to the walk in clinic, I used this old time remedy. Twelve hours later, the swelling is completely down, revealing a small bruise on top of the tendon; I slept great with a lot less pain; even my asthma feels more relaxed today.

So how did it do all that? Goes back to the RICE method. Putting a cut onion in your sock, over the injury, provides some compression. The raw onion is cooling against your skin, without using ice. The relief of pain helps you to rest. I did also elevate it while resting.

Cloudy today and cooler, currently 60 degrees in southern AZ. I am on top of the world as my vitamin D3 just came which I take for mood, also said to be protective against Covid 19. And I received my test results back re SARS-COV-2 (what covid 19 is called at the lab) negative, so whatever else can be wrong with me , it is not that. We have made it almost a year staying safe and healthy, did not think this was possible a year ago.

(rant warning) This RV park is losing patience with people who don't wear the mask and take the precautions, which results in more people getting sick. We all just received a strongly worded letter about staying safe so we can stay open here, the main facilities have been closed for cleaning again and expected to reopen tomorrow. That is the name of the game here. Let's face it none of us can live without money, so we do want to keep this economy going and people earning their living the way they always have. And we do want to keep camping and RV Park options available. Wear your mask, stay 6 feet from others, use hand sanitizer often, do not gather, get a free test at the pharmacy. There are medicines available to treat you if you are sick, better to start taking the medicine early on and not wait. Hope this rant helps someone stay alive.

WELL, since I'm just tired with a cough and not REALLY sick, I'm going back to looking at puppy pics and being hopeful about the future. Have a great day and stay safe.    ~crofter

What is wrong with this picture? I discovered that rescue dogs in San Diego are imported from Mexico.

Good thing they are not from Canada as the border is closed last I heard! I wonder if they are good at climbing walls! Lol!!!

Not to say all are, I'm sure some San Diego rescues come from US. But I feel like I dodged a bullet finding this out.

The thing about a Mexican trained dog, is that the potty training is on cement. So natural thing is to continue that and not use the bushes like US trained dogs do. In practice this results in a huge mess in your living area.

Back to the drawing board.

Our coyotes in the park must have been trained in Mexico as well as they only go on our concrete side walks and pads!

Never seen that before, those coyotes must be brave to come in so close. I stayed with some people who got a Mexican trained dog, and it was quite a dance to avoid stepping on a land mine there.

Sunny and 64 degrees in southern AZ.

It is laundry day and will be a marathon (and I use a laundromat!) Can't imagine working my way through this pile with a bucket plunger.

I can remember doing laundry with my aunt in bygone days. She had a 4 tub setup with a wringer and a huge set of lines for drying. I don't like using the washboard for spots because it damages the fabric, I just use more soap on the spot and more cycles.  Still hard work and it took all morning to fill up the lines. Then fingers crossed that noone would come tearing up the driveway and get dust all over everything. Last getting it all taken down before nightfall when the moths crawled into all the pockets. Nobody likes moths in the pockets. Whew! Glad I'm using the laundromat.
