Anyone here that can help me A.S.A.P. choose a good van?

I think knee jerk buying a van on location with a limited timeline would be a mistake.
She already got roped by the dealership + mechanic and is on a timeline.

Oh hells bells. So sorry for all this.

Possibly.

But on the other hand, she is not having any luck with this back home, and the DFW area is a large metroplex with lots of available vans in the area.

Just sayin.

Love Grace Jones, I worked security in a club where she performed this, she was electric in person.

WOW! Sorry to hear about all the BS they put you through. :(

This outcome was predictable and it's too bad but at least it should serve as a warning to others. A warning to buyers who think it might be OK to buy something off eBay or wherever that you can't personally inspect. And also a warning to those suggesting vans for others to buy; it can make you feel bad when all you were doing was trying to help and then things go awry.

Actually, I bought a 31 ft class A through ebay a while back. The seller had many detailed photos. They were in Arizona, and I was in Vegas. I communicated with them at first via ebay, then exchanged numbers. I noted they had sold to people in Vegas before, so asked if they were willing to drive to Vegas, where upon personal inspection, they got paid the balance. I initially sent them a $500. deposit before they would come out.
They drove it out, I liked it, paid the balance, then drove them to the airport in the RV.
As Slow said, beware of scammers, but if done right, ebay can work. Just be cautious and don't turn your Aces loose before you are 100% sure.
I will call somebodies bluff in a Heartbeat.
A good friend told me long ago, everybody wants your money. Learn how to use that to your advantage.

I used to live in west Hollywood at the time...would see her around.  That's awesome~and so is she

called seller: asked if he has made an appt for the specialist. He said he took the cover off...? I asked if he called and got appt he said he'd knock off $200. I asked again....he said he can't get an appt today...said, ok, that's all I need to know. Gonna pay for another day then start hunting how to get back home. ty

That's terrible XFILE36. I had something similar while trying to buy a van in Arizona and me in TX. Wish that had worked out better for you.

Had a similar experience buying my Roadtrek, except I went through with it, with predictably disastrous results. Very wise to move on and try again later.

Dennis and Queen, is there a thread on these results/problems that we as consumers have encountered that you know of? I'm sorry you had to go thru that too. We need to make people aware.. TY

Just received call that I let go to voicemail, from mechanic. I want the tribe's advice/help as much as you can in this situation. As one tribe member pointed pout, i agreed to the pre-buy inspection, but he never did what we were supposedly agreed to beyond that. I now have to deal with all this crap and try to find a way home so please wish me luck, and helpful advice is appreciated. TY

Even though he didn't do the inspection properly (obviously) and then SAYS he did repairs but ones you never agreed to ... I'd pay him for the inspection. Beyond that, there is no written agreement (if there was he would have violated it anyways since he didn't do as stated) so he can take his dishonest butt down to the whine and cheese factory for the balance. Cut your losses and get out of Dodge.

We'll help find you a better option or you can wait to sell the condo and bankroll a much better van. Heck, depending on how you do on the condo sale you could stay in a hotel while awaiting a van and/or build. Point being, you might not have a super solid place to stay but you''ll have infinitely more options.

Disclaimer: My 2 cents are worth exactly that. No more no less.

JMHO...

The things you mentioned are small details.  On a van of that age and condition ~~~ for that price ~~~

It is almost like you expected showroom new condition.

Only one way to get that...  ~~~ buy new.

It really sounds like a great used platform that needs a little detail in a couple spots.
