I'd consider myself very pro 2nd amendment, however, I see no need for open carry, I actually think it hurts the 2nd amendment more than it helps it. I see no reason to agitate the other side and when you push someone to far they push back. Push back on our rights that is.

I'll just blow the savings account and get an original Colt Navy, that would be spiffy!

I've never found the grips on single actions to be comfortable.  Now, Bisley grips are very fine, but they just look odd to someone raised on westerns . . .

I love the plow handle grips on a single action. It's the only way I can hold one with a long barrel.

This is actually not exactly true.

The situation in Switzerland is still that every Swiss Male has a government issued assault rifle and 200 rounds of ammunition in his home.  It's required by law, as is annual qualification at the range.  Care to guess how low the homicide rate is in Switzerland, btw?

.05 per 100,000   for Switzerland
3.9  for the US
84.6 for Honduras.
0.0 for San Marino.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

Everyone is also armed in Honduras.

Do you think there just might be another reason for murder rate???  Like education, or lack of it?

I'd love to have the money to buy original Colts, but I also like shooting my guns, so Ruger single actions get the nod.

Had to look that up.

Uberti and Pietta of Italy make quite nice replicas, amazingly accurate, and fun to shoot. MUST be stripped and well cleaned after shooting though.
I have three .44 caliber 1851 Navies, one 1851 Navy Sheriff in .36 caliber, and two 1860 Armies in .44 caliber. I like Triple 7 powder. Prices are very reasonable, much cheaper than original Colts, both 19th century and modern manufacture.

I don't carry a gun!
Thoughts?

Me either.   One long gun and one hand gun went the same day I left the military.   Too many kids around here to have a weapon available that might get into the wrong hands.

To be fair in putting my comments, I don't live in the USA.   No gun culture here.   Even the policeman living four doors up leaves his service weapon in the gun locker at his work place.   Despite the terror inducing stories in such movies as Wolf Creek and Razorback, Funnel web Spiders, Taipans (snakes), and huge crocodiles, will get ya long before the gun comes out of its storage place.

Traveling the the VANilla Villa is not complicated by trying to have a firearm in the vehicle.   Apart from having a think about the place I want to bed down in for the night, safety wise, I always rest easy without having a gun handy.

the guy with the open carry just became a deadly threat to me,the other people around me cant just blow my brains out,he can,i dont like that and usually leave, sorry dont trust you enough to put my life in your hands, now of course there are a couple more with concealed carry but ignorance is bliss

No, he didn't become a deadly threat to you, you simply PERCEIVE him as a deadly threat due to your anti- gun bias
guy = potential friend, guy + gun = dangerous psycho
Bias, not truth

The bad folks that really would do harm to others for personal gain would like everybody (potential victims) to believe that carrying a gun is no good. The rest of us should welcome the fact that somebody has one to keep the peace.
The downside to open carry is that person will be the first target if a bad person is that desperate to rob somebody.  Usually they will go elsewhere for easier pickings though.

I am one of the most pro 2nd amendment people you will meet but the antics of the guys in this video link are an embarrassment to the pro open carry. Kory Watkins is the one I had some bad words with, this is his video.

When people become confrontational while carrying slung weapons alarms go off in my pointy little head. Walking up to my car, at night, with an assault weapon like they were doing at intersections would be a good way to die.

I didn't care one way or the other about open carry as I would not do it but walking into Taco Bell with an AK?

The law passed but I have yet to see anyone with a sidearm openly carrying. I guess I need to get out more.

the only problem with that is i am not anti-gun,i guess you missed the part where i own a sks a weapon of war

if someone walks into dairy queen locked and loaded and flaunting it i see some ego, paranoia, little man syndrome going on
with a deadly weapon

we are not living in a war zone

Being a gun owner doesn't mean you have no anti gun bias; I know plenty of gun owners who think you shouldn't be allowed to own your SKS, or a pistol, because they aren't 'legitimate hunting weapons'
hell, there's a guy on my Motorcycle forum who owns guns and supports complete confiscation :s
Seeing someone acting completely normally but with a gun on his hip effects your opinion of the person in a negative way, because of the gun on his hip, without knowing anything about his actual character
Actually you're making unsupported assumption about his character, because of the gun
That's anti gun bias
Open carry doesn't mean he has paranoia, little man syndrome, or even a huge ego, it means he's wearing a gun, just like the cop who followed him in is wearing a gun
and mace
and a club
and a knife
and likely a backup gun
Now the jackasses Gunny is talking about I see as a problem

Differing views on gun control..Caution a bad word or three.

Gunny, did you see the news today about the two that got into an argument over a door ding in front of Krogers in Bedford? One wound up shot to death over that. Both claiming to be armed and one actually was.

Yes, a stupid door ding. And if you don't have a weapon don't claim to. A lot comes down to picking your battles and a damn dent is not one. Just sad.

I suppose I got too far off of the OP's question and for that I apologize.

Since this is a free country, carry if you want or don't.

I'm a Zonie, and I'm fine with open or concealed carry. But sometimes I see men and I could walk right up to them and pull the weapon right out of their back waistband. It's irresponsible, but that's life. I just hope those guys don't find themselves in trouble.

As a chick, I prefer to not let any potential predator have any more knowledge about me than my face value. I am an old woman with a cane, though I've used that cane more than once to keep panhandlers at bay with that and a loud "NO"! But it's comforting to know, when I carry concealed, that I feel like I'm on a more equal footing than I appear.

I have my CCW here in AZ, even though it's not legally required. I view it as insurance in case I get stopped by a LEO or in some other dicey situation. I pretend to believe that by having the permit, I won't be viewed as just another yahoo carrying.

But, as a point of interest, how often do you see women open carry? Perhaps we don't have as much to prove? I just couldn't resist a bit of snarkiness.

I carry one because it's like everything else I carry I hope to never need......fire extinguisher, first aid kit, heck I hope to never need my spare tire again.

I've grown up with them though, so i'm very comfortable carrying and shooting them.  I shot competitively from 12 to 18 years old and then again for a few years in my mid 20's.

I'm 36 years old and i've never been in a situation that needed it.  Doesn't mean I never will, odds are on my side that I won't, BUT if I do i'll be glad it's there.

If anyone is thinking of carrying one and have never shot a firearm before, I highly highly recommend you take a safety course and spend a dozen + hours at the range getting comfortable with it.
I've never been around guns at all - Hence my lack of comfort with them.
