The "Space" trailer...possibilities?

After looking at this site I began to consider its possibilities. I would be good as a cargo trailer being towed behind a van, but I could also see it being used with a car. With a car you could use the trailer for a tent in the trailer itself to get off the ground or back the trailer into a screen tent. It's too bad there wasn't an alternative or additional top for it, one that could make it teardrop like but ultimately with more flexibility.

This trailer would obviously be used in a boondocking situation and not stealth camping. Even for one who is not fulltime vandwelling the flexibility of this trailer would be very handy.

Opinions?
 
Looks like a ordinary trailer with a topper?  I don't see the attraction.  Why not go with a small enclosed trailer, then you could stand up inside, or get pretty close to standing.
 
Sorry you don't see the attraction, bee. That's your prerogative, but I like to think outside of the box and see other possibilities. I'm sure there would be some things you would see as great that I would view as ordinary. Somebody might see a plain white van and think it is ordinary when in fact it is extraordinary, or that an ordinary white van might have lots of possibilities with some imagination when somebody might just say about it, "well why not just buy an RV?".

If I wanted a trailer I could stand up in, then I would get that trailer. Perhaps I already have a van in which I can stand and just need a cargo trailer. Perhaps I have a small car that could only pull a small trailer and not one you could stand in. Perhaps I would like a trailer that I could not only use for camping and boondocking but also for hauling cargo. Perhaps I would like something with flexibility that I could use in different situations.

See how this works?
 
Cool trailer. You could probably pull that behind a Prius.
 
Very versatile. When I had a pickup truck (before I added a camper shell) I used to put my tent in the bed of the truck when I was camping. Kept it up off the ground which was great when it was raining. The only problem was securing the tent in the back when going to the store, etc. You could do the same with this only have the option to leave it at a camp site if you needed to head into town for anything. Or just tow it and have room for extra gear. <img class="emoticon bbc_img" src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif">

Exactly, which is exactly what vantexan intended to do in a thread on the "Introduce Yourself" forum:

It was this thread and this post #10 that caused me to check out the SPACE trailer.
 
As far as long distance goes, the trailer does come with optional 15" tires.
 
How much farther will 15" tires go compared to 13" tires?

I don't know if I would get one, but it's an interesting option to explore that I didn't consider before. I doubt that I will ever be a fulltime vandweller as I plan to keep my trailer ($230/month is hard to beat, which allows me to remain a resident of Wisconsin as well as being eligible for some of the benefits of being a senior living under the poverty level), but I would look at snowbirding and there is a great national forest in northern Wisconsin as well and northern Wisconsin is where the rich from Chicago used to go to escape the summer heat.

So this trailer does give me something to think about. It would be useful for a cargo trailer at home as well as for short excursions. Plus, even now this trailer could be pulled by my Scion xA RS 3.0, but I'm hoping to sell it soon.
 
You could get a military trailer at a surplus place for a third of the cost, have more room and it will go any where your truck can.&nbsp; <br><br>Google TRAILER M101A1 3/4TON.&nbsp; I bought one for $450 and pull it behind my F250.&nbsp; May not be right for a car, because of the weight/size, but for a truck or van.
 
Cute trailer, but I can do more with my 5'X10' open utility trailer. Haul lumber and building materials, haul my motorcycle to events, put a tent in it, or use tent poles/PVC pipe to cover with a tarp making a larger tent. And I have full 15" wheels.
13" wheels spin faster, causing increased heating of the bearings possibly leading to failure. Plenty okay for local use, but many consider them not good for long range hauling. Your choice, of course.
 
It is a cute lil trailer. I don't want to tow anything full time, but if I did in order to have more living room in the van, something along these lines would be more my speed. A cargo carrier on the top would be too challenging, but pulling one behind would be lots easier. The trailer could also be left to hold a camping spot while in town getting supplies in the van. I never did get to a price page when searching the website, but since I was only checking it out that's ok. I love that there's all kinds of choices in tow behinds so everyone can find something that might suit them. :)
 
well doesn't look to bad, except for the way they did the folding tongue. I don't care for that at all. highdesertranger

I think on trailers, 13" refers to the overall tire diameter, not the wheel diameter.
