Yeah, I really want to do it on the up-and-up. My premiums are pretty low since I'm over 50 and have good driver discount,etc. and I guess they wouldn't go up too much if I switch companies. I did call a SD agent suggested by YBA but didn't do an application because I'm not a resident yet. They sure require a lot of info just for a quote. Oh well, I'll figure something out.

I live in SD. insurance premiums are relatively cheap here because it is a rural state. I see someone asked about vehicle and smog inspections. Notta here. The idea of a smog inspection here is laughable. I don't know if anyone has a very seen smog here. On a good day you can literally see 40 miles if your on a hill somewhere. Your guns don't even need to be in a case here; just unloaded laying on the seat.

I think SD is a 100% open-carry state. You do not have to have your [hand]gun unloaded in the car, just "clearly visible" (so laying on the seat will do as you say). Long guns may have further "hunting" regulations preventing it from being loaded in the car though, pretty standard stuff there.

To become a resident? No time at all really. Just as simple as signing up to the address forwarding service, signing the necessary paperwork and mailing it too them. Done.

The vehicle registrations took a week or two (all in mail delivery time really) then the plates and titles show up a few more weeks down the road... all to the forwarding service who then mail it out to you... so it can be done while on the road.

All in all it was not much of a hassle. The most difficult part is spending an afternoon (or morning) getting all the copies, and notary stamps. Luckily, my credit union did all of that for me for no charge.

Yep, no SD license required. Although you can get one pretty easy (same day) from what I understand.

A couple years ago when I was beginning to think of getting a van, i researched mail forward services and got "Americas mailbox". I've since come to find out there's more.

Question;
In SD, which mail forward business would be better recomended[emoji780]
I'm thinking of making the move sooner rather than later.

I think they are all pretty close to each other in terms of services and cost. One may require slightly more in postage deposit than another, but we are not talking about huge amounts of money.

I think the biggest factor in your decision may (should) be the location of each company *if* you decide to go get your driver's license. Your Best Address (what I used) is located on the East side of SD (Sioux Falls to be exact), while some others (like America's Mailbox) are on the western side of SD near Rapid City. This means I could have saved myself some fuel costs since I was coming from Colorado. Plus, there are some cool things (National Parks and such) to go visit near Rapid City, not as much near Sioux Falls

If you must stay for 30 days (required to get your concealed carry permit) you are required to stay in the same county as your address. I have found that to be a little troublesome as Minniehaha County (Your Best Address) is very small and there are very few RV parks and those are priced very expensively for most of the year. I do not know how that compares to Rapid City area but something worth researching if you have a CCP and want one from SD so all your addresses match on all your paperwork.

Larry from YBA was very, very, very nice and walked me through all the paperwork over the phone (standard service) and made sure everything went smoothly. I have no problems recommending them. You can tell them that I referred you and I get some free month(s); I am box #936.

Oh, and please refresh my memory; SD has no state income tax, I don't have to go back for a vehicle inspection. How about drivers license with photo?

So, no mail forwarding service in AZ that does vehicle transfers/regs? I have an AZ DL. There's BCM in Quartzsite but hard to navigate site. Might have to "move" to SD. Sounds very easy.

Getting residency in SD I can do it with my modified cargo van, right?
I wouldn't need to go back for annual or every few years for inspection, correct?
How about my license? Is that renewed every few years or or is it longer? I would like one with a picture, does that make a difference?

My mail service is cheap enough and service is good. I "box" in a town with no vehicle inspection and get my tags in the mail.
I don't concern myself with state taxes, being on social security.
For my purpose, there's no benefit in changing states.

Jay, I currently have a Pennsylvania address, and with working full time having residence at a free income tax state like SD would be great.

Yes Luis, SD would be just fine with the van. Easy as pie to get an address and the vehicle(s) registered.

Getting the license requires you to show up in the state, and to the DMV. I do not think there is any other way to get it.
