Yogidog, thought you might relate to our group therapy's adopted motto.

U are right makes me teary in a good way:) I believe nothing heals like spending time with people who have been through the same:)  thank u for sharing, if u have more, keep em coming!

I think sometimes our identities get caught up in trying to prove our way is right, this is a natural human thing to do and I try hard not to do this. To know what works for me, may not work for the next person. So that is my disclaimer!

What excites me, makes living this way worth the hassle is travel and big nature.  Seeing things I have never seen, adapting to cultures different from my own, challenging myself. The way I do things involves quite a bit of risk and understandably  it is not for everyone.  I have enough savings now that car trouble risk is easily taken care of and that reduces stress considerably.

If I can't have these due to money constraints I rely heavily on my spiritual cultivation.  I use the adverse situation to turn inward, marshal my resources and try to get to a state of compassion, loving kindness, equanimity, acceptance and gratitude. Again I only came to this through trial and error, getting stuck places I didn't want to be, many, many times. So now it is pretty automatic to do this until circumstances change.

So I have accomplished my current highest priority, meeting people from the forum.  So glad I did, we have so much in common, tons to talk about, we are adventurous, intelligent, accomplished people, like I thought we were, good to have it confirmed though.  Hope fully I will meet back up with them in a couple of months and meet more, before the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous, that is also a priority for me, again to meet people.

So for now I am ready to go find the best temperature and climate I can and Padre Island sounds like it fits the bill.  Dog needs to soak in the salt water.

If by chance your route passes near the Dallas -Ft Worth area pm me or I will send you my phone # in a pm. There is a Texas Roadhouse with good steaks that I have a gift certificate to. Welcome to park near and have a meal if you get the time on the way down.

Gunny, that is a beautiful offer I will take u up on. The teacher I have been studying with is in Dallas forth worth area. I want to spend some time with him. I will go down with the others, I am practicing being in a group:) being flexible, done this so long on my own! And then come up for a few days or week. It says it is an eight hour drive, and looks like there might be a nature conservancy type place to camp about an hour out of town. Have ti look into it more. Are there truck stop/ travel centers I assume? I look forward to steak dinner and meeting u! I

Forgot to say I don't think we are going by dallas/fort worth on way down, we are going to explore some back roads and towns over to big bend is plan right now. I think more than one of us is looking for that perfect area for old age or major disability. I know I am!

What route will you be taking? There are a few truck stops north of Ft Worth in Denton, and one close to downtown but not in a safe area, in my opinion. When will be traveling?

The Big Bend area is great, many good places to park and it is kept clean. Here are a couple of my friends climbing Guadalupe Peak in their wheelchairs. Thought you might enjoy the view.

What an inspirationi need to see this to keep things in perspective, I can be "it is too hot, it is too hard" then I see this and remember how little I have to complain about. How far did they go? Cool friends to have :)

To the summit. They had to tie their chairs around their necks and crawl the last 50 yards or so. Here's the picture...

My favorite spot in Texas is Fort Davis in the Davis Mtns. That is a sky island. By chance if you (Yogidog) were talking about the Nature Conservancy property in that area it is generally not open to most of us "riffraff" but a couple times a year. Don't think camping is part of that either. Not sure though where you were thinking of.

Route down from here I'll get from Chris, I can't remember. In fact I will have to look at how I would go up too. Denton it is then. That is the problem with maps  and gps they don't tell u bad neighborhoods, can get all the way there and find out, happened to me in atlanta one time. I asked a guyif he thought I'd be safe and he said " yeah u are a white lady" wasn't sure I could depend on that and I was exhasted!

We will leave flagstaff area on first of october that is all I know for sure. When do u get results of scan and other stuff back? To know if u could come down to padre island?

Iwill for sure come to Dallas area, need steak dinner and visit the man!

Thank u! I need to look it up again, it was last year I looked it up, was going to drive from michigan to do this. U know of anycamping around the area?

Yeah nature conservancies can be that way!

U should try and come down and visit us at padre so far three of us.

Guadalupe Park or Guadalupe peak whichever you want to call it. It's likely on your way and worth the visit. There has been some trouble with illegals passing thru, but I have never been bothered.

Gunny, I shouldn't hit the reply button I heard so I will do it this way. Yes I dont worry about the immigrants, last thing they want is trouble.

After my tests (they found a minuscule amount of blood in my urine) are finished there is actually not a damn thing they can do. I am not a candidate for surgery due to other issues.

Monday I suffered the indignity of watching my bladder on a 40 in screen as the dr maneuvered the camera around for 15 minutes. Did I mention HOW they got the camera there? Good Grief. Ah well, this too shall pass.

Took the first of my two magic pills for sleep. About 5 minutes until #2 and then wait til it kicks in.

Peace to all, Gunny.

Davis Mtns. State Park in that area for camping. Don't know of boon docking spots unless you go to Big Bend Ranch State Park on down south. Hundreds of thousands of acres and it is right next to Big Bend NP. I haven't been on the river road but hear it is one of the most scenic in the country. Still on my list :)

Probably a good distance out of a more direct route to Padre Island though.

Gunny and Dennis, input of people who know area is invaluable thank u, after reading your stuff and researching more, decided motel is way to go. Big cities are much more challanging to do this in. Thanks so much, made the process so much quicker. Will go to padre island then come back up, probably after first 14 days is up u have to go for forty eight hours:) thanks again

Ok I said my peace, that it is not always easy out here, but all are adults and can make their own decisions:). Met three more people from forum today, that was nice, another woman coming tomorrow, camped with her before, get along well, she may go to padre island also. Wind is blowing like anything!
