Are you also in this life for political reasons?

This is not to start a political flame war here. I'm not asking you to name a side or to describe your political reasons, and will most likely remove any posts that could potentially start trouble. I only wish for you to simply vote yes or no. Again, I don't want to know why or what those reasons are, only if it is or isn't.

The reason behind this thread comes from a conversation I was having with a friend recently about it. My decision to embark on this life does (in a minor way) involve politics, but it is not the sole or even the main reason for doing so. My friend believes the decision for most people is largely political while I'm saying it isn't and figured I'd ask everyone here.

Again. No reasons need to be given so please refrain from doing so. A Yes or No will suffice, but you can comment if it was a major or minor part of your decision. That's it.

Off topic Steve, but I liked your Douglas Adams quote. I had a tshirt awhile back that said: "I ran out of sick days so I called in dead."

I'm totally ok with off topic in threads I start. As a matter of fact because the topic of this thread is verboten, feel free to talk about anything else as long as you vote please.

No. I have had a desire for this all my life. Financial was the biggest turning point for me. I don't need much space to live, and now I have it.
I call the camper my bedroom, when I step out, that is the rest of my house.

I couldn't agree more Sid! I call the great outdoors my living room. I've even got an inflatable couch ready for it!

Do you have a pic of it?
Where did you get it?

I got mine off amazon.com a few years ago for $20. they don't last forever but can last if you take a little care of them. we had some that lasted about 2 years in an ofc where everyone abused it.

there are quite a few different vendors if you google it.

Thanks. I never thought about something like that. I will check into it.

Anytime! I like to read a lot and always find myself laying on the couch when I do so. It seemed like a waste to not be able to do that on a great weather day under the awning. I also got one of those thick mats so the couch doesn't get wasted by a sharp twig.

I have run across several threads and topics when researching car/van/rv living that lean heavily towards the "occupy" movement. Well in my humble opinion in is a "movement" but leaves a foul odor.
oh and I voted.

Yeah there are all kinds from all walks of life. Me, I live by Groucho Marx's quote as best I can ... “I don’t want to belong to any club that would accept me as one of its members.”

Groucho was a very wise man.

If by political you mean seeing no point in a life long "career" and waiting 'til I'm decrepit to hopefully spend a few years doing what I wanted to do the entire time, sure. That is a socio-political as well as a philosophical/spiritual motivation. Probably not what you had in mind.

As long as it takes the past, present, and/or future political landscape into account ... it's totally acceptable. That works!

being a staunch conservative i can honestly say politics had nothing to do with me in this life style... but in this life style politics greatly influence my vote in the cost of everything from gas to food to policies of the agencies i interact with...

Considering that the way you live is really the only visible statement of your political mindset I would say that at some level we are all political. Vandwellers just like everyone else.

If you are living on the dole....in any way...obviously you are dependent on the goodwill of your neighbors. You better hope those social programs stay in place and do your best to insure that. Vote smart.

If you don't contribute to the economy in some way. you are saying you don't think that being productive is necessary.

I thank my creator every morning that I live in a country that provides so many social benefits for me and you won't hear me complain about paying my taxes.

Our public land is held as community property although the exploitive industries are always looking for inroads to take it and use it up.

Our roads are some of the very best in the world...made that way by taxes paid by those of us who use them. We have clean water to drink, clean food to eat, protection from pandemics and major health scourges looked after by the CDC and WHO. We have infrastructures to haul away the mountains of trash we create, to prevent flooding, to give help in disasters, to provide and maintain power grids...law enforcement, military protection, libraries, it goes on and on and the only way those things stay in force is through my taxes...and the taxes of my friends and neighbors.

Is the system perfect?...far from it.... but if you avail yourself of traveling the world some you can soon see that we have it better than a lot of places. Not as good as a number of countries but better than most.

No matter what vandwellers say they believe politically, and it is easy to hear the confusion in what a lot of us say, when I camp with them, I see a group of folks being very light on the earth and respectful of nature and other folks. In fact I have never camped with as friendly, kind, respectful, sharing, helpful, etc., group of people....true, many are on the dole as am I, but they have amazing histories and most have contributed to the wellbeing of us all.

In short...hahaha...yeah right....I am proud to know you all and no matter what you say you believe, I watch how you live and like it...

Soldier on,
Bri

P.S. How come some have stated their politics when you asked us not too....bwa-a-ha-ha-ha....couldn't resist could you!!!!

I am a staunch "Participant/Observer".....as my friend Rich in Thailand says.
Don't believe everything you think....
