My wife and I are planning on fulltiming in a GMC Vandura(7 seat passenger van), and I was wondering what you caffeine addicts out there do for your morning fix? It seems like a coffee pot would be a pretty big use of space, so I was considering looking into instant coffee, which you can do with a 12v mug or just over the stove. What do you think? Any suggestions on brands?
Percolator, with a heater of some kind.

At one point I was drinking about 9 liters of coffee a day at work, just to stay awake and warm.

I still love the occasional cup.

Don't be afraid to try the different presses, and styles of making it that are out there. one of my favorite brands was the "cowboy coffee" that I would order off the internet.

http://www.cowboycoffee.com/

Check it out, if you like.

I have been drinking instant coffee for at least 15 years, last summer a strange thing happened ...we had a hot spell, I started drinking iced coffee, now I prefer cold or luke warm coffee. Although in the cold canada winter, a hot cup of coffee feels good on the hands. I dont smoke or drink, do drugs, so a nice cup of coffee is something I look forward to.

You can buy empty tea bags on amazon, fill them with whatever brand and strength of coffee you like, put in a cup pour boiling water over them and steep for as long as you want.

Maybe you could build a stove like that^.

Looks like it works great too, very efficient.

Wow that is cool Armadillo! Alas, I am not a builder (yet) and I am still leery of lighter fluid + flames. I'm going to have to practice getting over my inane fear of propane - and I like that my future life will make me face that. No one around to kick me in the arse and make me face things that I fear, so I have to drum up things to do it for myself.

~SE

Coffe pot is worth the space, IMO. We fill it the night before, and when we want to wake up, one of us reaches over and hits the switch. The aroma helps get us up. Extra coffe goes into a plastic container with a tight lid to be warmed up later.

Also have an iphoneapp that monitors the caffeine in my system to keep the levels at just the right point for effieciency. It's a free app called caffeine zone lol

12v coffee makers

Thank you all for the advice, I'll have to try a few instants and see if I can stomach the flavor, because it certainly would be simpler. If not, I'll make space for a real pot. I've never been a coffee snob, I drink Folgers every morning, but I've had some pretty awful instant coffee.

It says something about me that the first question I asked before buying a van was about coffee, and then just today started thinking about other things like insulating Ah well, I've never made a secret of that fact that I am thoroughly addicted.

I have a "Clever Coffee Dripper" and really love it! All you need is to boil water and then pour it into the cone filter, the coffee will not start to flow until you place it on the coffee cup. That way you can let the coffee build in strength. Most cone gravity filters start to flow immediately this one lets you determine how long the water and coffee stay together before going into your mug!

I'm not worried about the space, I'm going to have me a coffeepot in my RV once I get one, lol.

Have you thought about the Black And Decker Spacemaker that can mount under a cabinet?

Every year I go to the RV show we have nearby, and each year I see more and more campers with spacesaver coffee makers either standard or at least optional.

Instant coffee ain't fit to drink; perk or press is the way to go. I personally use a stainless steel coffee perk. ..Willy.

Starbuck's has an instant coffee called "Via" which is the best instant I have tried. It is expensive, as high as a dollar a cup, but it tastes far better than any other instant I have had. I really can't tell it from drip. Most of the big grocery stores have it. I hated instant until this came along.
I have tried all the various methods mentioned and didn't like the hassle of the grounds, filter, etc. Percolators and drip take too long for me. The press method is pretty fast.
-Bill-

We have a mini Keurig k-cup machine that we use in our RV. We have used it mostly when connected to AC power. However we did have thought of using it on an inverter with the RV running. It is listed at 1400 watts. If my math is right that is close to 2 amps per minute. Mine takes 3 minutes to heat up an make a cup. We bought the re-fillable k-cup unit and use our favorite coffee
