Did my phone in order for a test kit at Walmart. Sat in the parking lot and ran it. Strongly positive result.

I guess I will not have to worry too much about getting another Covid vaccine this fall but I will still be getting one for influenza.

I am back to feeling pretty much normal but still have a couple of more days to finish up with the prednisone course of treatment. That is one of the drugs you have to stick with tapering down the dose over a few days. It was a huge help in preventing a major ongoing sinus infection as I am very prone to that and it kept my lungs clear as well. The 3 day major sinus area headache was definitely no fun to endure, even extra strength Tylenol could not it back on just a single 8 hour time release pill. But it was not a wide spread headache, just the forehead area above my eyes was the focus area of pain. I never totally lost my sense of smell but it did seem perhaps slightly diminished. Or maybe the prednisone brought it back because for sure that 1st 24 hours my nose was too stuffy to for any smells to get through.

So yes my symptoms exactly matched that of a sinus infection except that it was a sudden onset with an immediate totally clogged nose and headache with a very low grade fever. Then some sneezing and a dry cough. I isolated myself from my friends at that first symptom of a major stuffy nose with headache, it did not feel like at all like a slightly stuffy nose from road dust. There was no confusing it as anything but an abnormal onset of an illness.

When it is past the contagion point I will drop in at the county health clinic facility and get some free home test kits to have more on hand for myself and friends. If you are low on funds that is usually a good place to pick some up. But call before you go to confirm. Plus they might also have some distribution locations. When I was in Ajo, AZ the public library had some left there by the County Health Department of Pima County. Flagstaff AZ is Coconino County, Quartzsite, AZ is in La Paz County. You can track down those locations for yourself if you need them. They do often have mobile clinics going out to the smaller towns in the county several times a year so you can ask about that as well. Pretty much all across the nation there are county health departments. Not all types of testing they offer are free but the cost is generally lower than going to a doctors office when you are uninsured.

Weird question, just on the off chance that someone in this multitalented group might know. How many pages long is a basic criminal background check if you don't have any criminal background to report? I ask because I might need to get one and then get it translated into Spanish, and if it's a lot of pages the translation could get expensive. If I've lived in a million places, would it be long just from listing all the places?

I know people here have all sorts of interesting backgrounds. If anyone has had to deal with these, please sing out -- thanks!

Auto translate. Google has one and there are others.
I used to use auto translate to read Japanese and German patents. I also used to translate foreign newspapers from a number of languages.

I need an official/formal translation for a legal thing, and they ain't cheap. So page count is gonna matter. Be nice if I could guesstimate a budget in advance, but if I can't I can't.

If you use Google Translate to translate patents, my hat's off to you!

All the Covid symptoms are gone and I feel better with more energy than I have had in a long time. That is from the prednisone. It knocked out all the normal everyday inflammation I have. That normal achy stuff will return in a few days when I finish that treatment course.

Strange little roller coaster ride to have been going through this week. A educational one as well. I will need to wait until closer to October before I get my annual Flu shot after taking the prednisone. It can weaken your immune system for a little while so taking it and vaccines close together seems not to be a good idea. I will check with the pharmacy on that later.

My next big outing while I am still in the Flagstaff area is to take my laptop in and get its system software issues sorted out. I decided it going to be smart for me to let a pro service get it done for me. It would be very frustrating for me to attempt sort out and download all that stuff on a marginal, slow and frequently interrupted cellular service connection or over a public WiFi. Which is why it no doubt ended up with some file errors and such tangling up the system software.

So I will drop it off tomorrow and say OUCH when the bill for labor comes due. But it won’t be nearly as painful as buying a new laptop.

Chilly and damp today. Somehow that seems appropriate for September 1st. A little roller coaster post COVID bump today with increased congestion and inflamation from coming off the prednisone. But I took OTC mucous thinner and my friend gave me some drops of liquid magnesium in a cup of water for the inflamation so I got to feeling pretty much OK after that.

Tomorrow will be another chilly rainy afternoon. Hopefully it will keep the townie locals from turning this area into 3 day weekend party zone including trying to shot up the hearby gravel pit until well after midnight. Of course I could always stream a few WWII movies or Westerns and the noise would just blend into the sound track.

Thinking about what to have for dinner will likely be the only excitement in my evening. Maybe dinner should be something slower cooking though as it is already cold enough to have on my fleece pullover and stay snuggled under the blankets. Maybe I will even fire up my diesel stove/heater to make the meal. A pasta dish or curry sounds like a suitable fall meal. Not that it is actually fall yet but this is northern Arizona high elevation near Mount Humphrey so it comes early compared to further south.

It was a relatively peaceful summer this year, low key for much of the time which was exactly right for pleasing me.

I am glad you are on the mend and sounds like you know what you are doing. Maybe a good pot of chicken soup with tons of garlic and onions. I swear that ol' wives' tale is real.

Hubby and I just got our flu and covid booster and RSV shots yesterday. I had to ask his doc when do we and can he and what is best for him and his chemo.... Doc said today as it has been 2 weeks since last chemo and 1 week until next so ALL 3 at once and again with the Covid when they get the new stuff ready for the new variance that is popping up. When I told him I want to go back to part time work with preschoolers he said be ready to walk out if the flu is running it's self through the center. So now we both are grumpy, I always get a headache with the flu shot, we both have sore arms and are ready for just about anything....

Last winter, I got, from work, all at once both a vaccine resistant flu and covid and RSV. It made the guy who was testing me have a very surprised look on his face. It hit everyone at work and shut down the whole center. I DO NOT want that ever again. That's what happens when kido's are not able to get the normal 'stuff' at a young age and all at once the world opened up and .......
I have my winter flu bug supplies on hand. Pedialyte popsicles, Tylenol and lots of applesauce. And a room to isolate myself if the need arises. Oh yea and masks.....again.

I am fortunate that I have never had a bad reaction to any vaccine or medications in my 70 years of life. Just sometimes the normal tenderness at the injection sites. No known allergies to anything, no hay fever, etc. of course I have had other issues, including injuries and such but just not those relatively common sensitivities.

Hooray! We made it out the other side past that dreary daily monsoon rain season. Nothing but yellow sunshine symbols and 70 degrees for the afternoon high temperature in the upcoming forecast for Northern Arizona. The seasonal change of weather has actually arrived a couple of weeks earlier than is typical in September.

Now I just need to scratch together some more physical energy to take a lot of enjoyment and productivity out of this lovely upcoming week of good weather.

Come on up to South Dakota… it’s 94 in the shade and I’m broke down til Wednesday… sicker then a dog with a cold. I was trying to get home. Not quite half ways… from my kids…
Sorry to hear that Ben. Some days life on the road just feels pretty miserable when it all piles in on you. But at least you have Kira to keep you company.

Looking forward to seeing you in Q this winter.

Talk about a "Bad Day"..........................

I think MERMAID LILY is caught up in the Burning Man mud fest.....................

I have a sewing question. I have a 1952 Singer 15-91, the info Ive found indicates its a pretty heavy duty machine for a basic non-commercial machine, its capable of sewing heavy materials and lighter grades of leather. I tried some heavy duty button and carpet thread, it ran fine in the top thread when I tried it on Carhartt material, should I used the same thread in the bobbin for sewing leather where it will be a single stitch and exposed in use? The info I found was the thread in question is a 10 weight.

This is the machine I have.

You also put heavy thread in the bobbin. But that requires adjusting the screw on the bobbin case to loosen the tension. How much to back it off is going to take testing by sewing a length of stitches and looking at the top and the bottom of the test piece to be sure the tension is balanced. Also make sure there is no puckering. There are lots of YouTube videos on getting the tension just right.

I agree with the heavy weight thread. It reminds me of my mother's electric sewing machine Daddy purchased in the mid 50's. It was a Japanese machine. I sewed everything on it from satin and silk to heavy canvas tents with no problems.

I would like to speak with you about it. How do I get in touch with you, I'm new to this forum and have not figured out how to navigate it.

Sorry but I am not up to talking anyone through sewing tutorials right now. I am still recovering from COVID so my patience and my energy is at a low level. Watch some YouTube videos, there are plenty of sewing lessons posted.

NO tutorials. I am a very experienced sewer. Three wedding dresses under my belt, man's suit, tents, draperies, you name it, I've done it including upholstery. I'm interested in the machine. Neither of my Pfaff's are up to a job I have to do.
