Thats great, and both mine have done the same, yet I see a lot different around me. The PT jobs I have had recently at Krogers and now at a plant that builds industrial electrical equipment both have a horrible time attracting and keeping workers.

Kroger was a disaster, very few of the late teens and 20-30 group were willing to stay off their damn phones and show up or do their job.

I couldnt believe the amount of food that was piled up in shopping carts from the evening, customers would abandon partly full carts or declare they didnt want some item and it sat there all night.

I’d come in at 7 am (custodial) and find pools of melted ice cream, chicken/meat/frozen items that had gotten to room temperature, usually 6-8 shopping carts full. Then anything saveable would get restocked and the meat, dairy, cooler vegetables would go to the dumpster. All because they didnt have enough people who cared to put an item away.

The industrial plant pays $17 to start for assembly work and has had a 150% turnover in the 18 months they have been in business. Just this last Friday they had 28 show up out of a shift of 45. The rest called out or simply no showed, wanting a long weekend.

I know some of us have responsible kids but where I have been working lately I don't see that very much.
Might be a Kroger thing. When I told my daughter how the workers were acting at our local Kroger she said it was the same way when she was there. Ignoring the customers and sharing cell phone pics/memes across the aisle to the next register while I waited.

Poor management.

American manufacturing has great examples as well as some unfortunately sorry examples. It is about the people who run the company including board members of the corporations. I have worked for excellent manufacturing companies and also worked for some that treated their people not so kindly. But every company I worked for had a very high standard of quality product output.

So on a different note.....
We been dealing with health issues the last 2 months. So glad we had to stay put this spring I would hate to be dealing with this out and about. Anyway it looks like it is life threating and one of the things we were told today was eat salt, among more tests and a scary set of information... So hubby and I don't eat much salt but now to counter some blood chemistry he has been told to load up on salt. So what is your fav salty snack? We are eating chips and guacamole for dinner tonight with a side of watermelon....

Chex Mix..........Potato Chips..............ANCHOVIES ?..........Green Olives......Or break out the dusty SALT shaker..........

I don’t eat as much salt as I used to but yes scoop chips are salty. Probably not good for you in other ways but fried foods taste great with salt like pork chops, fried chicken and French fries. My home made hot weather drink is tea with a little salt and honey. Salty dog or margarita alcohol mixed drinks if that is your thing, of course with salted peanuts or salted hard boiled eggs! Almost forgot two of my favorites sliced tomatoes and green apples! Yum butter and salted pop corn! Pickles! Okay I’m done!

Electrolyte drinks have sodium and that helps to prevent dehydration. So a good option for summer time. I like the goal zero ones. I get them in small single serving size packets. I do have to be sure I get enough salt because you lose it through perspiration in hot weather.

I sometimes keep pretzels on hand as they have salt without all the oils in potatoe chips. Of course lots of canned foods are also high in sodium including soups. So those might also be an option that taste good, is not too high in fat, but has lots of salt.

Club soda with fruit juices is another option. You get the sodium and the fizz without caffeine or a lot of sugar depending on the fruits you choose. Club soda on ice with a twist of lime or lemon can be a refreshing summer beverage. It also can settle down an acid stomach.

Of course saltine crackers. Top them with just about anything or have them with soup. Not fancy but they are at least affordable compared to fancy crackers. I keep them on hand when I need to increase my salt intake.

The company gave them Monday off as well, unpaid, because they know people wont show.
It is sad really.
And the quality issues… 6 months ago they had over 1100 stockpiled engines that failed for 1 reason or another. Brand new just built, but folks just couldn't seem to get the valves on right, or missed a few nuts and bolts as the engine went down the line. They'd make it to the test stand and, well, it wasn’t pretty.

Theres a repair crew that takes them apart, tries to figure out whats wrong in order to save them but most of it goes into the 40 yard recycle dumpster that is hauled off every 2 or 3 days.

And this is the sorry state of American manufacturing…
What kind of engines?

Raley's grocery store in Tonopah, NV has store brand pretzel rods that are very salty.

I prefer Snyder's pretzel rods for moderate salt intake.

Salt? I just eat a canned food item, that way I get puhlenty of sodium.

Here's an eye opener on city programs to help the homeless with tiny houses...

Multnomah County offered free tiny homes if residents housed the homeless. Here’s what happened

KGW News

Seems the amount of $ spent and the help it gave are not really cost effective in this case. There's got to be a better way.

Funny thing about salt: it's hard to determine sodium content by taste alone. Fact check me on this, if you like, but I recall learning that there is more sodium per serving in chocolate pudding than in potato chips.

^^^depends on the recipe for who is putting what in the pudding, of course it also depends on the serving size. Salt is still used as a preservative so maybe you are talking about those little pudding cups?

Happy 4th of July!! The group I am camped with is celebrating with a group potluck snack fest rather than a major meal of hot dogs, salads and such.

No fireworks of course or campfire or charcoal barbecues as fireworks are never permitted in a National Forest and there is currently a stage 1 burn ban as there has been no significant amount of rain in the last month plus the temperature is in the mid 80s and there is wind at mid day.

The nearby city of Flagstaff also does not allow fireworks. But the city does have a laser light display instead for its big nighttime celebration. I think that is a growing trend in cities now.

Apparently there are now "drone" displays as opposed to fireworks...

They put salt in everything. Gotta read the labels!

I believe that Flagstaff is doing a combination of drones and laser lights.

Did somebody say spam?!

Lol!!! That is when you can only fill half of the jobs people quit and then the replacement people take the job and only stay for orientation before leaving along with the rest that had been there a while! Lol!!! Last year the state had six very remote positions to fill here and only filled three. One of the three new employees showed up only to leave the next day. Another one stayed a whole day before leaving. The third one became the supervisor because the current supervisor transferred. He got a $10 an hour pay raise and managed to get one employee hired that stayed. So basically you have 2 people trying to do 7 people’s worth of work. He was able to convince the state to raise wages because he saved them some money and they managed to get the job somewhat done, now he has 6 people again trying to get maintenance caught back up. State would have been better off to have raised wages last year and kept things up in my opinion. Good employees are highly under appreciated and paid in most places it seems today.

Tonopah, Nevada is doing live fireworks, the fire dept puts on the show right across US-95 from the BLM office, by the star gazing park. A massive number of mortar tubes ready to go. I would of had a good view where I was camped.

I moved for cooler climes, on the way hitting one the five Walmarts in Nevada outside of Clark and Washoe counties.
