That is actually what I have in mind!! I want to use real furniture pieces modified to fit! We'll see how it actually pans out, though!!

Bob had a video posted of a fella traveling in a full sized Nissan van, he used regular home furnishings and adapted them to work in his van... made the process seem much more doable for someone who can't or chooses not to, do a build.

It sure would greatly reduce build time for someone in a hurry !!

Yea, I think the guy used a low dresser for his countertop and made great use of all the drawers, then he used end tables and some plywood for his bed base.  Pretty well done and functional.

Definitely going to tint windows but will work hard to not cover any permanently. Going to look into the foam board construction for "upper cabinets" over the bed.
When I find a van I'm planning on building the bed the length of it as well since I am 6'4" tall. Not enough room for me to sleep across the width.
I have watched some YouTube video's of the foam board construction using the paint to hold the screen to the board. Looks like the result is a light, strong material that can be built easily with almost no tools and in almost any configuration. I plan on trying it out as well.  :)

:) I just posted on a old thread of mine about a van build in Scotland they altered and repurposed some older furniture.  I think the thread is     real furniture...wood stove.........hanging bed  or something like that.  If you want to take a look at it.

She also does some bohemian/gypsy/costume designs and he is a magician.  I haven't followed their blog lately. the link is there   I think Gary68 provided it for me   right now it's in "New Posts"

Look at Charlene's van in the header part of Bob's web site - Charlene also has a blog called Swankie Wheels. She used a desk that she didn't want to get rid of, and recently added a bed tent around her bed. She's done much to it since Bob first wrote about her, and it seems to fill her needs well. She's been on the road full time since I think 2007 and it's holding up pretty well. I built her a new keyboard tray a couple years ago at RTR, and she's redone the electrical so she can run a fridge and a freezer, but the basic build is still going strong.

I made a shelf once after a previous husband gave me a circular saw for Christmas (I did not ask for it, but it wasn't a vacuum, so I didn't throw him out right away), anyway... the shelf turned out pretty well, not perfectly square, but the mitered corners didn't look too bad and then I painted it a very high gloss red and it was just adorable! I absolutely hated the process, though, and have never had a desire to build anything again!!

I will check out the video! I think I've seen them all, but they tend to get mixed up in my memory. I should keep a better list of the things I find that I like!

I love the no power tools aspect for sure! LOL  I'm very short and shrinking, but I love the concept of a walkway from front to back... I'm also wishy-washy and change my mind often!  :s

I can't find this video. If you should come across it again sometime, please let me know!

I just went looking and cannot find it either, wonder if it's one that didn't make it over when Bob got the new site?  Maybe email him and ask if he can link you,the guy had some great ideas.

My youngest son was home from college this weekend, so we stepped inside Juanita to check her out. He was impressed with the height (he's 5'4" and could stand with his head touching), but he was not impressed with anything else about the van! ROFL... The little rat stole my Montero Sport and just shook his head at my Club Wagon, hmph! Once I kind of laid out where things would go, like the bed and the kitchen and the upper cabinets, he was a little more accepting. He gave me a pretty great compliment in closing, though; he said, "I've no doubt you'll make it happen." Ahhh... I love my kids  :D

PS... I scoped out whether a shower at the rear would be possible... I like the idea, but I don't think I want the construction or giving up the space. I can surely budget a truck stop shower 2 or 3 times a month with having to do laundry anyway!

PSS... I have a state inspection scheduled for tomorrow morning. It's only $12 and will give me a better idea of what it will take to license and tag it.

One more step closer!
