    Eggs - Do you refrigerate?

A friend of ours had spent some time on Alaskan salmon boats. She swore they kept eggs 3 months unrefrigerated on the boat...Now maybe she misspoke, or my memory has played a trick on me (it was about 10 years ago), or it was simply a fisherman's natural penchant for exaggeration...but I was...

    Custom Ram Promaster

My Transit cargo has just barely enough width at the window indents (where the windows would be) and I'm 6'3", but I only have one layer of reflectix and carpet on each wall. There is a company that makes side flares so you can gain about 3-4" on either side. Flarespace

DIY: How to make your own 12V Fridge

So, if I put something inside the freezer box (which is the evaporator plate) like a block of ice, or perhaps better, a solid chunk of metal or other material with large thermal mass, this would reduce cycling and therefore improve efficiency? I could add the mass before we drive and "charge" it...

DIY: How to make your own 12V Fridge

It's interesting that you can buy a 12v Danfoss compressor and retrofit it onto a dorm fridge, but the cost of the kit (from West Marine and others) is $800+. Then you have to get it charged. And, no guarantee that it will be any more efficient than a $700 Engel. A friend of mine who is a...

DIY: How to make your own 12V Fridge

I read this thread but without the photos (thanks Photobucket!) it's hard to tell what's going on.. correct me ViaVacavi if I'm wrong but the only major alteration that is adding efficiency is that the inverter does not idle? I like to have my inverter ready on demand so it does idle. IMO not a...

    Mr Buddy controls

It's Hi or Low. Anywhere between 40-50 degrees outside, I can run it on low all night with the roof vent open. I often wish I had a heater with a thermostat, but that's a whole other animal. I have mine hooked up to the RV tank, after an hour of use I have found that I can't turn the heater...

    Super Bloom in Anza Borrego

Looks stunning, I was there 5 years ago and thought the bloom was impressive but this must be a whole other world. I'm going to miss Carrizo Plain this year too, it will be carpets of wildflowers as far as you can see.

    Cargo 6 x 12 or 14?

6x14 may only be 100 lbs extra dry weight, but how much more would you load in it than a 6x12? If you're looking for open floor space, then probably not much. If you want to use that extra 2' to cram in more amenities, then it might add up to a lot. I had a 6x12 conversion. The most that would...

    94 F150 with I-6 as tow vehicle?

I've never understood how they come up with tow ratings, I'd rather go with a gut feeling. My 2009 Honda Ridgeline had a tow rating of 5,000 lb, but even with a 2,500 lb trailer it wasn't very much fun, not to mention overheating the transmission. Towing at the limit would have been terrifying...

    Vermont Carry Spreads

If those 15 states can go 3 years without a single mass shooting, consider me converted.

    Flip Pac truck renovation

Here's another option, and since it opens over the back you get an awning too!  http://adventuretrailers.com/campers/toyota-habitat/ Even bigger $$$ than Flippac ($8,600!!), but given the issues people are having with them it might be worth it.

    Critique CycleCruza's 400W System

Never heard of this approach, does it work? Seems like the separate controllers could confuse each other and inaccurately read the state of charge.

What your dog can see that you cannot

My dog is most definitely a better judge of character than I am. When I had a cabinet shop, I had a few employees. I had several who were at least OK, and Scout got super excited when they came in. But one was shady, and Scout would cower in the corner and growl. For the record, he doesn't...

    Cooktop too slippery!

Hmm, I will lose a lot of fried eggs on the floor before I get there. Maybe I'll give it a quick hit with the belt sander. I read somewhere that somebody makes a cast-iron grate to upgrade these cooktops but I couldn't find anything anywhere.

    Cooktop too slippery!

Hey folks, this question doesn't fit well into any of the topics, but here goes: My 3-burner Atwood cooktop has some kind of enamel or porcelain coating over the grate, and pots and pans slide around, even just flipping an egg. It's downright dangerous, any ideas to increase the friction between...

    Poll: Which fridge...

I've noticed that the guys who really understand the technical details seem to go for the Vitrifrigo. I'll buy one (someday, they are pretty expensive) because they make a zillion sizes and configurations, and they have one that fits very nicely in my cabinet.

    Interesting..uh.. Sportsmobile?

Check out this fine piece of workmanship I found on RVTrader.com, owner says it's a Sportsmobile but I have some doubts: https://www.rvtrader.com/listing/2005-Sportsmobile-CUSTOM-DESIGN-120615319

    Part-timer: is solar really best?

I think we don't understand your needs very well. Maybe you can clarify what you use the batteries for, and what you'd need the generator for?

    Connection of MPPT charge controller

I also noticed that figure is for AGM, they don't give a compensation for flooded batteries as I have. I will set it to 0 mV.
