I'm almost positive I found the link here but now I can't find it.

There is a website where people offer their property for vandwellers to stay at for free or for a donation but I'm drawing a blank on what it's called and my google-fu is weak.

Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Thanks

Wow, thanks for that last link!  Found a place to stay on my way in and out of Florida for $5/night... Goat House Farm Volunteers, Apalachicola National Forest, Torreya State Park: https://www.hipcamp.com/florida/goat-house-farm/goat-house-farm-volunteers

The 4 hours volunteering will be easy with 20 years experience of my own small farm of dairy goats and jersey cows, sold five years ago. I may not wanna leave! :D

Actually, I wish I'd thought of this myself all those years... would have made running my farm more profitable. Oh well. lol

More profitable and more fun!

Maybe I should get a herd of goats and start charging people to feed them....

You would probably end up living with a bunch of old goats! Lol!!! One of my in-laws opened a nick nack antique store but in her last private advertisement I saw she was serving liquor and had live jazz. I guess mason jars are selling pretty good since Covid 19 restricted bars from opening!

Well, if you do, I have tons of experience to share! First requirement for keeping goats: If you can throw water through your fence, it's not strong enough, hahaha!

let me see if I understand this,

you are paying someone to work on a farm?

Kinda like workcamping all summer, where your site is paid for by your labor....kinda the same thing here....some of your cost of staying for the 2 nights minimum, $10, would be yeah, you get to feed and clean up after the barnyard animals. I think it's geared more towards young families and city couples....and the listing says that the $5 is the lowest they are allowed to ask for, so I'm guessing that might even be 'optional'...

I actually think that sounds better than cleaning up after humans at campground vault toilets...I've seen some of those that were VERY messed up.

Well if they get past my fence they will have some friendly company in the adjacent pasture:

That's for sure! lol

Actually this has me more excited than I've been in a long time!  Maybe I can get fresh goat milk!!  Or maybe they'd let me make some mozzarella or feta cheese, or even simple goat cheese, all fairly easy and relatively quick.  I used to sell some 50 lbs a year each for $12 a pound, as well as regular Jersey milk gouda, monterrey jack, pepper jack, colby and brie. Goat milk has a certain "flavor" that's delicious in fresh feta and goat cheese, but less than delicious in aged cheeses like gouda and colby. :D

Oh, man... sometimes I do miss my farm, kinda, sorta... not really, lol. I miss the animals, but not milking and feeding and watering and shoveling snow twice a day in freezing cold and blizzards.

I'm too old for that anymore, but this way I can get a cheap "farm fix" once or twice a year, then drive off happily! lol
