Some days I barely got anything done BUT every little bit gets you there eventually.

I'm getting quite good at "drive by's".   I run to the storage units arriving about 3hrs later than I planned.
Tie Queenie to the van, raise that big old rolling door, and there it is all the crap I still need to deal with  :( Then I sort & snatch up what I can before it either rains or the heat index hits 110 or both and then run back home.

Today was different.  As I looked around I realized "WOW!  I'm nearly done with this one!  I couldn't believe it!!  4mo. ago this 10x20 was stacked wall to wall and front to back, 6ft tall in places without even a path thru it.  So this mo. I didn't pay the rent, that's $98 and the Aliner payment is $100, YAY I saved a trailer payment.  As long as I empty and clean it before 5pm Monday I'm good, otherwise I need to pay the rent.  As soon as it's empty the unused rent will credit for next month on one of the others.
Yeah 1 down :) ...........and 3 to go

I know some folks may think "SO WHAT SHE EMPTIED A STORAGE BUILDING"  This has been the single hardest & most time consuming thing I've done since I sold my house in SD and downsized to my Ranger truck and a homemade Chevy Luv pickup bed trailer.....in Nov. of 2007...by myself.....in the snow.....building sideboards on both of them.....loading and tarping as I went.

So I'm looking at 5 days of high temps and rain in the forecast.  If it's not raining in the AM I hope to hit the storage by 6am at the latest.  If I had any help I'd try out my new generator with some lights hooked up and work at night while it's cool.

Queenie had fun today.  I'm way at the back of the unit when she starts barking and raising hell in general then I hear Don the storage guy saying "Hey Queenie and Just don't touch her".  I was already headed to the front when I heard her fussing.  Today was Auction Day and she was on a 12ft lead hooked to the side door between the van and unit.   She was pissed...all those strangers too close to her van and she could only get half way to the middle of the front and rear bumpers.  I'm sooooo glad she didn't think to go under and pop out the other side!

She has never bitten anyone...however she does go on at strangers, especially those nasty ol' "space invaders".  I have told a couple of them that have just kept messing with her even when she is growling or barking that if she doesn't bite them I will.  They think because she's little and cute and wags her tail while she's barking and growling that she won't bite.
I'm not little or cute and I've been known to bite.........we're not going there :p

Ya'll have a good weekend.

Way to go on the unit. A feeling of accomplishment is as important as getting things done.

  There are so many "labels" for folks these days....I'm not going to list them...... {you're welcome} :)

I have a new one for myself. I think I must be a "GOLDEN MOLDY". It's HOT and WET down here. Day after Day.

Brad Paisley had a song called "Ticks".  Very romantic.....He's a real sweet talker him........."A walk in the moonlight....A kiss back in the sticks......Walking thru a field of wild flowers........I wanna check you for ticks"  :)

I think I need all that annnnnnd  A MOLD check :D  I did say it's HOT and WET down here !!!!

Saturday Q and I went a rummaging in the storage unit #47.  A nice cloudy day with a little breeze.  T storms  forecast for late afternoon....they came early...T storms don't use the same weather channel I do?  I did get some sorting and packing done and quickly threw stuff in the van and got the tarp and then the rolling door down right as it really started raining.

Sunday we were able to work longer.  I gave 2 good sized boxes of books to my Sis and Niece.  Sorted and packed things to keep and things to sell.  Also took 3 large boxes of clothes, some of them new, mostly for kids, to someone who works at the truck stop where I buy my gas and sometimes lunch.

It's been 38 years since I had my 1st cashiers job at a truck stop.  I don't remember what the minimum wage was in 1979.  Maybe around $3 a hour?  I do remember having only 2 good pairs of jeans.  I had to hang one above the gas cook stove with the oven on and the door open to dry it and wear the other pair.  Everything has gone up in price since then.  However I doubt minimum wage has kept pace with what it costs to live.

Nothing new with the Safari and Aliner......just waiting on the rain to stop and the concrete road and sidewalk work to stop down on Main St. so I can get them to the shop.  Doesn't matter anymore,  I'm too broke to pay attention let alone actually get to GO SOMEWHERE...ANY DAMN WHERE....I THINK Q AND I WILL GO TO A REST AREA FOR OUR 1st OVERNIGHTER!....there's one nearby and armed security at night too.

I think I'll go eat lunch now...2nd meal o'the day... lunch...right  :D

On the RV forums it was often told to new comers to do a bit of driveway camping to shake out any bugs. So your plan to try out a rest stop is not that far fetched. The other thing is my first night when I left new years day was at the rest stop just past Raton, N.M. Friday night on my way back to Colorado for the GTG I stayed at the rest stop on the north side of the expressway and woke the next morning looking across the way thinking that's where it all started 6 months ago. So I don't really see anything wrong with your plan.

Get 'em , Queenie !

DO NOT ENCOURAGE HER!! :D She woke me at 2:30am last night....standing on me and going Harumph

Then it took her FOREVER to find the right spot on the lawn to fertilize.  In the meantime I'm watching for the new night walker I've been warned about.  I musta looked like a chunky lighthouse draped in a oversize T shirt...first I'd do a sweep to my left and then one to my right then back to the left etc.  I had to drag her fat butt back inside....she's a worse night owl than I am.  :D

Whoever came up with "No News Is Good News" is just most definately, without a doubt, ate up with something, either skeeters or the dumb ass.  You choose.

So I have no news......about anything......I'm trying to wrap my head around how being dead in the water with so much to do can be "GOOD NEWS".

  N.N.I.G.N = Humbug.......Hogwash..... & My favorite Texas standby BULL SHIT.....I never said I was a lady anyways.

HDR sounds like he has experience on this......................... :p

:(  Rainy weather has slowed the road/sidewalk constrution on Main street where the my van/trailer needs to go for the towing wiring and the Minn Kota AC elec. power port to be installed in the drivers rear door.

I've already paid to have the seats removed and the only one left in the rear,  and not spoken for,  is the rear bi-fold seat/bed.  It's in excellent condition except for a smudge on the back that faces the rear doors.  I''m near Ft Rucker  AL and if anyone wants it just speak up......no charge.   I'll post/note this is the right forum,  sooner/later.

Since the heat index here for weeks has been over 100 and sometimes reaches that before 10am I've been doing "drive by's" at the Aliner and storage units.  Queenie stays home mostly these days.  I've been doing a fair amount of work here at the apt.  It didn't look too bad until I started dragging STUFF from closets, cabinets, totes and dressers.  This is too damn much like work!

So far this week:      Lotsa cooking, laundry,& mucking about at home.

Yesterday managed to step backwards out of the van straight down to the ground making no contact what so ever with the step.  Left me standing with one leg bent still in the van and the other very extended clear to the ground.  My body WAS NOT READY for that   I HURT IN PLACES I forgot I had

My favorite Dunlop walking sandals threw a tread right in the middle of my favorite Mexican restaurant on the way to the restroom.  Like my Mother before me who while pregnant walked out of her favorite red 1/2 slip in a public place........I just bent over picked it up and kept on truckin' :D

While I'm in limbo waiting for weather etc. I purchased a 2nd roll of reflectix and hope I will be able to get that in the Safari side and rear  windows this week.  There is a empty covered RV spot next to the Aliner and I think I can use it for shade for quick jobs.

Now I wonder what and how to put some kind of refletive coating on the Safari's TV hightop with it's peeling clear coat?

Well onwards and upwards..........Truly more like backwards and forwards........and not at the same rate of speed  :)

Queenie is napping on the heating pad...silly ol' dawg... she don't know it ain't even on.
She's just pissed because she didn't get beans with her cornbread today

I hope everyone has a good week.

Queenie and her Human

  I forgot my prize winning DUMB ASS DONE THING of the week.

I locked myself out of the van!  All windows rolled up tight.......AC on full blast.......No cell phone......Ice water and purse in the van.  Lucky for me it was not on the weekend.  Don, one of Q's men was there in the office so I had company, ice water and T.V. while I waited.  Geico called  a place that said it would be an hour.  I laughingly told Geico to tell them I was right next door to them.  15min later I was in the van.

I think it's true that safety is a state of mind.  Lately I've seen how EZ it is to cut off padlocks [ I lost keys to 3 storage units]  cut threw trailer tongue locks [I lost the key to it], and open a "locked up tight" van with power windows and door locks, [locked the keys in it with engine running]

I also learned a few days ago that I'm not as prepared as I thought I was when facing personal aggression/attack from another.

One of the local "woods dweller's" that lives behind my apt. complex decide to yell at me while beating on my drivers side head light and ranting that I was gonna put someone's eyes out.  This was in broad daylight and I could see the police station 2blocks away and I wasn't  even a block from my apt. and even closer to my Mom's.  I'd stopped to ask a neighbor how she and her Mom were doing when this guy wandered up.  She and her family know him quite well and I've given him rides before in the back of my Ranger in the past.  He was  so close to the van that if I'd driven forward I'd have knocked him in the head with the big side mirror.  He wears a unsecured knife on his hip and as Papa would have said his "cornbread not only isn't done in the middle it's soupy".  I was reaching for my steel pry bar that is supposed to be right by my seat while I had a finger on the window button  and Pepper and I both yelled at him to stop and get away.  He slowly moved away while yelling and cussing us.   I'd had enough and started backing up towards him while Pepper yelled "Oh Hell"  and yelled for her folks.  I knew other than running him down there was absolutly nothing for me to do except drive away.

I have not gone to the police because other than yell and hit the van he caused no damage and did not threaten either of us,  The guy is mentally ill, drinks and drugs.  Knows what I drive and what apt. I live in.  I've told family and friends for several months that I'm leaving as soon as I'm ready to roll.  I thought of staying close by however think Q and I need a new homebase while I decide if we actually need one at all.  I was surprised by my reaction to this situation and am still thinking about all the "what if's" that could have happened.

OK, you DIDN'T report him cause you are afraid that might only make him more pissed with you.  Got it.  Might be valid, might not.  A whack job might still be pissed for whatever deluded reason his mind comes up with.

The upsides of reporting him:

Even if there's nothing official the cops can do, maybe one of them will unofficially warn him that they're watching him and throw enough of a scare into him that he will leave you alone.

Maybe your report will be the final straw, if other's have reported him also, and they'll be able to pull him in for a psych evaluation.

Finally, and to my mind most important, if I'm ever required to take drastic action against him during an altercation, having a number of previous reports of his harassment and threats against me on the record will be EXTREMELY helpful during any followup investigation.  It will show that I TRIED to handle it through the proper legal channels.

Anyway, food for thought.

Hi TJB,
The heat here has put a damper on my build and plans too.
