Be leery of the numbers now. As of July 15th, Hospitals were mandated to stop reporting their Covid numbers*, through a data protocol, to the CDC. A private company was hired, which changed the data collection protocol. This causes confusion and loses all transparency. The private company now reports directly to HHS. The CDC was basically shut down from reporting all hospital and Covid 19 information.*** Don't forget that the CDC works within the Dept. of HHS, so why the change to a hired private company? After this happened the numbers initially dropped because hospitals were not set up with the changed data protocol, nor the collection of it, so for a short time, not all the numbers were reported. After July 15th, the availability of hospital beds and ICU beds were no longer available for the public to see. That information was immediately removed from the.gov website. The numbers again recently "dropped" or "leveled off" for a day or two as well. Take it with a grain.

And yes, to VanFan. Mrs. Weasel**** and I went down to see our son in Georgia about 5 weeks ago. When we have someone diagnosed with Covid, they go into a negative pressure isolation room with the door always closed. Anyone entering is masked with an N-95*****, gowned, gloved and has either goggles or a face shield. We limit our time in the room to a minimum. Now that you know how we treat someone with Covid, let's get back to our son. We ordered food for carryout and when my wife and I went to pick it up with masks, our jaws dropped to the floor. Every single table in the restaurant was filled, shoulder to shoulder. Every barstool at the bar was filled with folks, two to three people deep, standing in back of the people seated. And not ONE patron in that restaurant had a mask on. We just slowly looked at each other and knew that they were in severe trouble. And yes, the lag time for this is about 4-5 weeks. Now, look at their numbers.
Remember, the care/precautions we take with a Covid patient in the hospital? Just imagine if even one of those folks in that restaurant/bar has Covid 19. That is being spread through the whole bar and restaurant. We seriously couldn't believe it. It unfortunately will continue to spread until people wake up.

*and other important information**
**like follow-ups on Remdesivir studies, etc.
***this is one of their primary jobs during this pandemic
****who is also an ICU nurse (we work in the same ICU......go figure!)
*****btw, we've been using the same N-95 masks for 3 weeks now-thank you Defense Production Act

Bizarre, changing horses in midstream. But then everything this country has done over the past 7 months has been bizarre. There are a few sites around that I watch regularly, so depends on whether they get hacked data in the future.

Russia's numbers look very good, generally 10 times better than the US, but of course no one believes anything out of their mouths.

All I can think of anymore is america is divided into two parts: 2% over here, and 98% over there.

Went to Grand Junction Colorado for doctors and supplies today. Large highway signs stated Masks required in public places. Walmart and Sams Club has security making sure everyone entering had a face covering. Did a remote pickup at Sam’s. The store person that brought out our order maintained social distancing and had a mask. The store had people wiping down carts and gas pump handles after each use. Lanes marked and 6’ dots on the floor inside. Lots of people wearing masks but as chin straps or not covering their nose. A good list and avoiding groups made a quick trip inside and felt fairly safe. At the hospital only patients allowed in masked after temperature taken and a green hand stamp applied. Plexiglass dividers everywhere. Lots of college students around most not social distancing or wearing masks moving into student housing as in person classes start 17th August. I have a feeling Labor Day is going to see a huge spike on campus and in the many small stores surrounding the campus.

Two groups. Actually Colorado is doing good as far as low death counts, but cases have been increasing. One keeps hoping for some good news. Sigh.

Just doing a routine check, it's good to see that Arizona at least has had a significant drop off in new covid cases over the past month. It was up in the top 5 or so, and is now at #24. Percent of people testing positive has dropped from 27% down to 6%. Mask use has gone up to almost 70%. However, TX and FL and GA haven't changed as much.
