Be leery of the numbers now. As of July 15th, Hospitals were mandated to stop reporting their Covid numbers*, through a data protocol, to the CDC. A private company was hired, which changed the data collection protocol. This causes confusion and loses all transparency. The private company now reports directly to HHS. The CDC was basically shut down from reporting all hospital and Covid 19 information.*** Don't forget that the CDC works within the Dept. of HHS, so why the change to a hired private company? After this happened the numbers initially dropped because hospitals were not set up with the changed data protocol, nor the collection of it, so for a short time, not all the numbers were reported. After July 15th, the availability of hospital beds and ICU beds were no longer available for the public to see. That information was immediately removed from the.gov website. The numbers again recently "dropped" or "leveled off" for a day or two as well. Take it with a grain.
And yes, to VanFan. Mrs. Weasel**** and I went down to see our son in Georgia about 5 weeks ago. When we have someone diagnosed with Covid, they go into a negative pressure isolation room with the door always closed. Anyone entering is masked with an N-95*****, gowned, gloved and has either goggles or a face shield. We limit our time in the room to a minimum. Now that you know how we treat someone with Covid, let's get back to our son. We ordered food for carryout and when my wife and I went to pick it up with masks, our jaws dropped to the floor. Every single table in the restaurant was filled, shoulder to shoulder. Every barstool at the bar was filled with folks, two to three people deep, standing in back of the people seated. And not ONE patron in that restaurant had a mask on. We just slowly looked at each other and knew that they were in severe trouble. And yes, the lag time for this is about 4-5 weeks. Now, look at their numbers.
Remember, the care/precautions we take with a Covid patient in the hospital? Just imagine if even one of those folks in that restaurant/bar has Covid 19. That is being spread through the whole bar and restaurant. We seriously couldn't believe it. It unfortunately will continue to spread until people wake up.
*and other important information**
**like follow-ups on Remdesivir studies, etc.
***this is one of their primary jobs during this pandemic
****who is also an ICU nurse (we work in the same ICU......go figure!)
*****btw, we've been using the same N-95 masks for 3 weeks now-thank you Defense Production Act
