I'd still be able to meet. Here's some ideas of places to stay from freecampsites.net. Also Daniel Boone National Forest is relatively close and apparently dispersed camping is allowed. I've never done it but I'm a big noob . Here's a link though: Daniel Boone National Forest Dispersed Camping.Les H said:My wife and i have this planned, and are vefy much looking foreward to it. If, by some chance AK cant host the gtg, would others still be able to come if a suitabke location ( cheap, preferably free, natl forest campground? Primitave or unimproved site?) could be found? Of course, we would still love to see everyone at AK's place, but if thats not possible, then what? Anyone nearbye that can revmccomend a spot as an alternative?
Seraphim, Hate to play devils advocate (so to speak), but i have had no (nada, zip, zero, none) problem finding dispersed camping at the eastern NF 's i have visited .In fact , most have primitave sites ( privey or not, water pump or not, but almost always tables and fire rings. The only restriction i have found on trailheads is " no camping within 150' of trail, water, or bridge ( crossing)Seraphim said:No prob, AK - mostly wanted to make sure you were OK. Good luck with the job!

Khyron - the problem I've discovered with most eastern NFs is finding a place to dispersed camp in a vehicle. Parking at a trailhead and hiking in is one thing, but one may not camp in a unit at the trailhead, or nearby. Also, a lot of the land in the NF isnt actually owned by the NF, and they may not be available for public use/camping.

Each forest has a road use map which can be downloaded from the NF site (don't have the link available offhand) which shows the road, but also have to check who owns the land along the road. Most of what I've found is that land along a usable road is owned by someone else - no camping along the road.

This RTR is practically next door to me.

Looks like the weather is gonna be great temp wise. Kinda hot up until thursday night when it looks like a front will come through drastically lowering temps. Good. We hates the heat we do. Some rain likely friday but hey, if it ain't rainin it ain't trainin!

BTW anyone want this stuff? I pulled this TV, VCR, and wireless headphone transmitter out of the van recently and don't need any of it. All 12V! If not I'll just throw it up on the free section on craigslist.

Oh and did I spot one of ya? Pic taken today on the drive home from work, University of Kentucky campus. I like his antenna mount on the ladder. I need to come up with an antenna mounting solution as well but I have no ladder.
