I'm going to try to make it. Ohio isnt that far.

AK

Just trying to confirm the get together's still on. No response to a PM I sent, and haven't seen any updates for several weeks. Hope all's OK with you.

Folks, sorry for the delay in responding to requests for info, I have been really swamped this last week! I am going to post more information this week. I have a possible overseas job opening up soon and have been trying to coordinate that!
-AK

My wife and i have this planned, and are vefy much looking foreward to it. If, by some chance AK cant host the gtg, would others still be able to come if a suitabke location ( cheap, preferably free, natl forest campground? Primitave or unimproved site?) could be found? Of course, we would still love to see everyone at AK's place, but if thats not possible, then what? Anyone nearbye that can revmccomend a spot as an alternative?

I'd still be able to meet. Here's some ideas of places to stay from freecampsites.net. Also Daniel Boone National Forest is relatively close and apparently dispersed camping is allowed. I've never done it but I'm a big noob . Here's a link though: Daniel Boone National Forest Dispersed Camping.

No prob, AK - mostly wanted to make sure you were OK. Good luck with the job!

Khyron - the problem I've discovered with most eastern NFs is finding a place to dispersed camp in a vehicle. Parking at a trailhead and hiking in is one thing, but one may not camp in a unit at the trailhead, or nearby. Also, a lot of the land in the NF isnt actually owned by the NF, and they may not be available for public use/camping.

Each forest has a road use map which can be downloaded from the NF site (don't have the link available offhand) which shows the road, but also have to check who owns the land along the road. Most of what I've found is that land along a usable road is owned by someone else - no camping along the road.

Hello Folks, sorry for the delay in confirming the Kentucky RTR, I have been super busy! The RTR is on for 17-19 Aug as stated in the earlier post, I plan on a welcome BBQ on the evening of the 17th and then various activities on Sat and Sunday! I am going to post exact location and schedule later this week! But for planning purposes, just know that my little 20 acres is located in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. If you Google the Anderson County, Ky Courthouse you will be real close, I am less than 2 miles from there! I have a lot to do to get prepared, but I am excited!

Seraphim, Hate to play devils advocate (so to speak), but i have had no (nada, zip, zero, none) problem finding dispersed camping at the eastern NF 's i have visited .In fact , most have primitave sites ( privey or not, water pump or not, but almost always tables and fire rings. The only restriction i have found on trailheads is " no camping within 150' of trail, water, or bridge ( crossing)
This has been true of more than a dozzen state and national forests from the catskill mtns of Ny to north Ga, with Vt,Ct, NH and Me thrown in to boot.

I've only tried looking around the Ohio area. Most of the spots I've found weren't actually NF land, though they were in the NF, and had different rule. I'll have to head your way.

I over generalized my comment - amend it to Ohio NFs

Youd better head this way! And soon! Or else you will miss the rtr
B-)

I meant I'll have to head to the states you listed, if you can drive back into the woods and park anywhere. We try to avoid camping areas. the NFs around here have designated camping areas, but I guess that's not what I meant by dispersed.

We're not planning on missing the RTR. I thought you were further out right now...

AK. Pm me if you need anything for the RTR. We'll bring the chips lol...

Are there more specific directions to the area, or havemay old eyes just missed them? We probably won't make it by 4 pm, but not too long afterwards

Seraphim and Dravonfly, looking foreward to meeting both of you, and everyone else!
Ak, directions or adxress please? Im leaving Chattanooga, Tn around 2:30/3:30
ill contribute to the firewood pile, as well as anything else you might need.

Hey Folks, I will post address / directions on Wed afternoon!
-AK

I'm still coming. Will be working Friday but can probably skip out around lunch time. This RTR is practically next door to me.

Looks like the weather is gonna be great temp wise. Kinda hot up until thursday night when it looks like a front will come through drastically lowering temps. Good. We hates the heat we do. Some rain likely friday but hey, if it ain't rainin it ain't trainin!

BTW anyone want this stuff? I pulled this TV, VCR, and wireless headphone transmitter out of the van recently and don't need any of it. All 12V! If not I'll just throw it up on the free section on craigslist.

Oh and did I spot one of ya? Pic taken today on the drive home from work, University of Kentucky campus. I like his antenna mount on the ladder. I need to come up with an antenna mounting solution as well but I have no ladder.

I didn't think about asking, but does anyone need help working on a unit? We're only going to be there a few days, but if someone needs something done we might arrive prepared...

YES PLEASE I can use this for my niece. My family of one is now two.
