This forum exists so you asked for it. One of the reasons I'm seeking a high top van is because I'm afraid that, ahem, cleaning myself, will give me back or knee pain eventually when normally I would fully stand up. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks.

Citytravelfotos,

Even my van which has just a low/high top......like most conversion vans have.......is helpful in cleaning up oneself. And doing a lot of other things...it really is worth it to me...

I have had about 4 stock top vans over the years and they just kill my back...I would never recommend anyone try to live in one...

I know folks do it and apparently do fine but I feel the pain...

I agree with She on baby-wipes....
Bri

I've tried a few ways to stand up in one position for a period of a few minutes as if I was in a regular van, at first it was ok but within a few minutes I had serious back pain. Again, does anyone have any tips or is this too uncomfortable to talk about?

What tips do you think people can post? You use the pot, you wipes yourself. Use babywipes for the best clean bum in town....
Bri

Since I have on occasion have a back problem I can relate to this. I realize what I do at home now might help you. Lean on something solid. It takes the pressure off your back. Maybe a small folding table or even the wall of the van or maybe the bed. See what works. Just lean over and.......Its OK back pain is no joke!!!!

Perhaps some sort of overhead handles or side handles. Kinda help support your weight when in an awkward position. It's gonna take some trial and error on your part. Sometimes when you try things out there aren't the problems you anticipated.
-Bill-

I had operation and could not stand for any extended time. I had no real problem cleaning while seated. From baby-wiped bum to sponged-bath pits, it all worked out. Seated at a basin I even did my hair. (I do have short hair.) Later, a shower while seated was doable.
