Katie - No apology necessary but very sweet of you to say, all the same. I've been a moderator on forums and it can be a thankless job.<br><br>Dragonfly - Offer still holds for you and katie. My side of the creek is always open to friends. In fact, some of my closer friends remind me, "I'm coming to your place if the zombies ever come!"<br><br>Katie: I like knives. Yep, legal in Indiana to carry concealed or open fixed blades of any length. Just no autos.<br><br>

<div>hi Steve- once in my van i loaded my gun during the night when i felt a friend was in danger. situation resolved without any drama, other than that of me trying to load the gun in the dark.</div><div><br></div><div>i was not vandwelling the one time i needed a gun. the assault by an armed attacker happened in my home, lasted 6 hours, and left me with a knife wound (and others i will not describe). it took me decades to get over the fear, but when i did, and knew i wouldn't shoot the first person who said "boo" i began to carry. </div><div><br></div><div>most recently, my nerve was tested by a man who burst in the back door of a closed and locked office at my friend's business. i was alone, and must say there was a bit of shouting and i almost sh!t myself, but i pulled the gun and not the trigger. i did stop him in his tracks and backed him right up and i must say that felt pretty darn good. i can tell you that i believe the book "the gift of fear" by Gavin De Becker (mentioned earlier) was significant in my reaction. when i was working at the desk, i heard a faint clank in the garage bays. without really thinking, and acting on instinct, i reached for my gun in my messenger bag. seconds later the guy burst through the door. if i had waited to draw my gun until i had a "real reason" i would never have untangled it from my knitting in time. that is one of the reasons i got my little pistol. it's always on me now. </div><div><br></div><div>the decision to carry is individual and very personal. it's not for everybody. most people will never need it. but like paddle man said, sometimes bad sh!t happens. i feel better with the options i chose.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

It seems like blade and firearm laws are, in many States, a reflection of the concessions made by each side to get them passed. <br><br>Missouri? No fixed blade carry. Autos were legal to own but not carry. Anyone over the age of 21 could carried (concealed or open) a legally owned handgun <i>in their car.</i> No permit necessary. Unfortunately, to buy a handgun (from a dealer or individual) one had to submit a request to the local magistrate via a <i>Permit to Purchase Concealabl</i>e <i>Handgun.</i> Wait two or three weeks, drive to pick up the signed permit and use it before it expires in 30-60 days. Once purchased, you needed to return the form with the particulars. <br><br>Indiana? Fixed blade, any length, are fine. Folders? Any size. Just no autos. The permit to carry - concealed or open - is inexpensive and requires no classroom or range time. Downside? If a resident, you can't even an unloaded handgun to the range without said permit. For dealer or private handgun purchase there is zero local involvement from law enforcement / municipalities. If from a dealer, you do the NICS background check and fill out the BATF paperwork. Unless there is a "ding" in the check, you walk out in 15 minutes. If from an individual, the seller is just tasked with the legal responsibility to feel certain that the purchaser is not a <i>prohibited person: i.e., underage, non-resident, felon</i> and then the purchase is cash-and-carry with no paperwork. The law doesn't state *how* the seller needs to be certain. I have a certain amount of <i>float </i>in my personal collection and buy/sell/trade a bit. Most folks I know, check the State DL and their carry permit but record no information.<br><br>Katie - I'm sorry to hear of the past trouble. We're a reflection of our experiences. I understand from an abstract viewpoint though I don't pretend to comprehend fully.<br>

She explained to them how much she enjoyed shooting our/my .40 cal version and that she felt having a 9MM too would save us some ammo costs at the range while still keeping a fairly consistent feel overall. So what does the guy do? Shows her the LCP in pink... Not a smart salesman! I thought she showed pretty good restraint though! Guess where we will never be shopping now?! Little update <img src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" align="absmiddle"> Heidi's new Compact 9MM PX4 is on the way! Should be here Tuesday. We bugged the nice folks on the Beretta forums for a while to help her decide between the compact and full size. They made some pretty good arguments! Wasn't considering the subcompact at all. Really that one isn't even the same gun. Different locking system, barrel doesn't rotate etc. <div><br></div><div>CPLs came in today too, yay! </div><div><br></div><div>Katie, I have another gun for you to check out, the Stoeger Cougar. I decided that will be my next one. One guy in particular posted a ton of pics of his full size and compact versions side by side and really knew a lot about them. His opinion of them seemed pretty trustworthy too. </div><div><br></div><div>She would never want the sub-compact, just too small and not nearly as smooth a shooter.
