Any car dwellers out there feel like a chat today exchange some travel tips and place to visit and visited?

I'm currently fixing that 'bored out of my mind until November' syndrome by taking a 4/5 day roadtrip.

I picked something fairly local that I hadn't done before and headed out.

The 3 hours of driving yesterday felt wonderful. The night in the W/M parking lot felt like home.... :D  and today's driving on as many scenic roads as I could find on the map helped too.

First thing (way too early in the morning IMO...sigh) I get to board a ferry for a 1 3/4 hour trip on Georgian Bay and then I'll explore Manitoulin Island for at least a day before completing the circle.

It's something I have wanted to do for years but because it's always been in my own backyard it's never gotten done.

It ain't Arizona or South Padre Island but for now it cures the 'Is it November Yet?' thing.... :D

I have been doing that myself drove out to Goodland Kansas this past week and came back over to KC and hit back roads down through the Ozarks then back home to West Tn. LOL I think all that did was make me want too leave sooner. My little doggie did great and had a wonderful time and was sad when we got back home.

I just looked up Manitoulin Island and I would love to explore Ontario like that your lucky. I Think I will apply for my Canadian Passport so I can go up in to Alberta Saskatchewan and over to B.C.

We are heading up to the UP on Monday, might do a circle of Lake Michigan.

Are the trees already turning that far south? I guess it is almost October. I really envy you.

I'm in Wisconsin and the trees are starting to turn. The news is saying color is not going to be great this year and it is going to peak early.

Manitoulin Island is still very green!

Down near Algonquin Park we were at maybe 10% color when I left there Friday morning.

I am gonna have to get one mine has expired for about 10 years I called and checked this morning and I can get just one for Canada and it don't cost as much as one for world wide. I wish they did like Washington state and let you get it put right on your drivers license.

It depends on the state as so far only those bordering Canada(WA, VT, NY, MI and MN) offer it, even though it's valid for travel to some other countries as well.  As EDLs(enhanced driver licenses) become more popular other states may offer them and AZ, CA and TX look like they are up next for it.  Keep in mind, these are NOT for air travel, only land and sea.  If you want to CYA in case you need to fly from Canada or whatever connected countries for an emergency it's best to get a standard passport.

Thanks for the info on that subject. Unfortunately Tenn is not one of said states I don't think I have too worry about flying cause I am kinda like they guy on the A-Team they would have too knock me out lol. I do want too explore Canada someday I would like to see the Corner Gas set in Rouleau Saskatchewan and then head over to Alberta from the pictures I have seen is it is beautiful there in Alberta.

They are getting a little color nothing big yet but you can see a hint of fall in them. It has been so dry I figure most of them will just fall off the trees and where I live here it is flat land nothing like middle and east Tenn now it get's really pretty over there starting in about another week or so. I have actually thought about relocating to the Denver area my brother lives down in Trinidad Colorado.

Do you have any advice on visiting Tennessee? Good camping areas? I drove through the mountains of East Tennessee on the way to Virginia and was very impressed. Next time I will get my brakes inspected before driving those long slopes.

Hmm, I wish I had known about this as I just recently sent mine off. Looks like Texas is working on one.

You are better off with the paper one, then you can go anywhere. The enhanced drivers license "passports" are limited and are intended for people who frequently cross the border. The Nexus cards are what you want if you cross the border a lot, they let you into a fast lane and bypass the long line.
