IIRC Pahrump was/is at 2600' (Mount Charleston is almost in the middle of town !) , not the best place to hide from the cold but still way better than a lot of other places right now !

FWIW ... Mt Charleston, which is 11,916 ft in elevation, and can be seen from Pahrump, is actually 25-30 miles away from Pahrump as the crow flies ... and about a hundred miles and almost 2 hours of driving by car.

It is beautiful now, with the recent snow.

Ditto Vagabound's comment.

5,000 ft level is about two miles going uphill from Basin and 160.

All of Pahrump is in a fairly flat valley.

But yes, not the ideal place for winter. Yet, very crowded with RV'ers escaping the north.

We had 18 degrees Friday morning and 74 degrees Sunday afternoon here in NC. Back down to 29 low tonight. I'm taking a break from sleeping in my unheated car, visiting family this week. After Christmas I'm Florida bound.

-2 last night in central Missouri.  The heat exchanger / ac is a joke.  I broke out the Mr Buddy.  The landlord came by to check on the problem, and offered electric heaters.  The whole time he was looking at my Mr Buddy, and looking jealous.

The HVAC guys are making golden time.  They will have a great Christmas.

Weather_dot_com has been predicting frigid temps up north lately. It's past time folks up there swing south, if they plan to. Don't wait til the highways are iced up.

Wow , OK . that far away.....I remember when I turned left on Belle Vista it seemed so close on the right.
OR was that something else?? Wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong.......did I get the 2600" right for downtown ?
Elevation was the only thing on my GPS software that I trusted (It wanted me to turn right instead of left when I got to Belle Vista on my way to DV. then kept telling me to turn around all the way to the JCT! )

I had snow on Saturday and 10* followed by rain Sunday and 39* then flash freeze to 13* last night and high of 17* today , 5* predicted for tonight . Heat wave tomorrow 27*!
Last year it was in the 50s the week before Christmas (when I bought my Big Buddy) and no snow till mid Jan............

Yeah, you got the elevation right (2,697 ft.), and which mountain you're looking at. I assume that the road Belle Vista was so named because it points directly at Mount Charleston, which is a beautiful view indeed.

I remember a long drive across the desert somewhere in Northern Nevada or Utah years ago. Very flat barren basin with mountains in the distance. I remember thinking that a huge mountain on the other side of the basin looked pretty close. By the time I got there, it had been something like 80 miles. Visual perception of distances to far-off objects, like mountains, is very deceiving.

It was 9 degrees here in Campbellsville, KY last night. My tiny $18 electric heater did what it could. Was fairly cold, but I've had worse. I bought a Mr. Buddy, a 20lb propane tank, then couldn't find the"recommended" hose tobusevthem together before work, so had to go without. Only two more days and I'm out if here!

When you use you buddy's and larger propane tanks, do you leave your propane tanks outside or inside?

FYI -- Some well-stocked Walmarts carry those hoses and even attachments to put on the top of the propane tank to allow attaching two hoses or two devices to one tank.

Walmart did have a Mr Heater hose, but it was the wrong part number? My heater (and manual) both say that there are four hoses that can be used. Three of them recommend using a filter with them and the fourth hose does not require a filter. Walmart had a hose, but it needed a filter, which they didn't have in stock

Check at Lowes and Tractor Supply if they aren't too far.
I special ordered the no filter hose from TS and the shipping doubled the cost !
(The difference from the other hoses is it has a quick connect fitting and regulator.)

I've experienced the distance in the desert effect many times , just didn't think it was that far...
Got a big kick out of my GPS telling me to go up the mountain to get to Death Valley , AND I could see where the road ENDED before it got to the top! POS ! Now I just rely on the maps........

Oh yeah , forgot my weather report...
24* now @ 1:15 pm and warming trend for the next few days so looks like the blast is over ,,,for now !

The law says they must be outside .I chose to not do that for now. What you do is your decision...
I'm planning to make a longer host to connect to my RV propane system with the larger frame mount tank.

Tractor Supply had a decent selection. $25 for the hose and $10 for the filter. Thanks
