Ironically every advert on that page was for amazon. I didnt even know temp workers can get unemployment.

Seems like hard work at amazon, but you make a lot in a short time if you are just seasonal. Just go in expecting that...

For sure, and picking up some seasonal work with them is my intention.

However, did you read the story though? That lady had a legit medical issue and the temp agency Amazon uses were pulling some douchey moves to not pay her.

I read it all, and i think it is horrid. Didn't mean to excuse their bullying behavior. I think in her case it may be legit, i think it was clear she wanted a perm job heading in AND it was clearly their fault. The fact they don't even deny her claims makes it plain they are just hoping to make it enough of a hassle people will give up.

I worked in a warehouse in extreme heat and cold, and it is rough. I threw boxes, probably hundreds a day..maybe thousands. But it isn't gonna kill you if you are prepared. Good shoes, proper clothing, wear compression shorts (the wicking material) under your regular undies (bring an extra pair to swap when those are soaked), bring baby powder for chaffing, stay hydrated with gatorade and water, drink a glass of milk daily(this does make a difference to knees...i didnt believe it till i did it), get the lightest footwear you can with the most cushion you can (cushion first, then weight), and prepare to burn through a pair every other month. On the hottest days, i'd take a little extra long in the bathroom (with the a/c) too when i had the chance soaking your head occasionally too (amazon might be more strict on potty breaks tho). If you are gonna be moving any sort of boxes, get latex dipped gloves (not the dotted garden gloves, but full finger and palm dipped gloves). You hands and forearms will thank you.

DG - I'm no stranger to physical labor, and welcome the chance to make/save some money while living rent free. Anything to keep us on the road is a good thing!

Thanks for the link Kim!

Glad you like the site! I really enjoy her writing. She's on quite the journey.

BTW, I just want everyone to know that message #5 was not in response to the blog link I posted.

I've seen both sides of the coin over my years of employment and have been on both sides of the desk. Staffing companies make their money through staffing so they will be the greatest fighter in paying unemployment benefits because that's a direct hit on their only source of income. Companies like Walmart makes their money from sales and fighting unemployment is less of a ding on their income because it isn't the essential aspect of it. Expect a hassle from any staffing company because you've got your fingers in the main compartment of their wallet!
Rae
