Happy Birthday Nature Lover.. what a great idea to have watermelon on your July birthday. I'll have to remember that for next year. My BD was on the 13th.

Lots of dry lightening happening here for the last hour, again. Freaking me out. Hope we don't get any fires close to town.

I see the next 10 days in Yuma will be between 111F and 116F. Yer tough, crofter.

TA, remember River Girl. You always have the Klamath to jump into in case of fire. Maybe Bigfoot will join you too.

Out of habit, I track the fires in the west every summer, helps me to plan my summer trips. So far there are few fires in WA and OR, but there currently are 3 good sized ones east of you between Susanville and the OR border. Gold, Hog, and July. I have noticed in the past, too, that sometimes CA fires don't seem to appear on Incident Web, but do appear on Calfire.

https://inciweb.nwcg.gov
https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/
I have to revise what I mentioned above. Turns out in some cases, Calfire also removes fires from their list, and which then only show up on Incident Web. In this case, the July Complex fire 66,000 acres near Canby, CA was just removed from Calfire.  Bizarre behavior on both sides. So turns out you have to track both sites to be aware.

Thanks for the links ... I'm so happy to see there's no new fires near me. Grateful for the rain!

Today I should make an appointment to get my van serviced in anticipation of my trip to Idaho. I don't have any other plans for today! Taxes are paid. Bills are paid. I feel so stress-free. Biggest problem is ants in the cat food. These ants, I've discovered, love sugar but hate clove oil. I put clove oil on my countertops and they're no longer interested in wandering through my kitchen. I need to mop the porch with clove oil so perhaps they'll stay away from the cat food.

TA, you just have to keep on watch there all summer long. Luckily you have 3 escape routes just in case, plus the huge  fire south of Seaid 5 years ago probably means that area will have fewer combustables for the next few years. I hope your trip to Idaho goes well, I'm still in holding mode for trips this summer. Hoping for the fall.

When you go to the grocery store get a box of Borax Laundry additive. Sprinkle a thin line of it and it will get rid of the ant issues. Just keep it out of the cats normal pathways and sleeping spots. Also gets rid of carpenter ants. A little bit of it along the back edge in the lower cabinet under the sink is good. The ants often come in along the water lines because of the condensation of moisture.

The last day at the workshop space. It will be a long and busy one.
Tying down the rear of the solar panel
loading up the rest of my stuff and securing it al will take most of the day.
clean up time too of course.

After I get my trailer brake controller installed I have decided to take a ferry boat from Edmonds, WA over to the Kingston, WA and then head north to Port Townsend.

I have to get a WA state park "Discover Pass" so that I can go into state parks. I have a half price senior discount pass but the Discover Pass is an additional fee I need for camping on any type of state lands. I will do my first night in a paid spot and maybe even a second night. The fairgrounds are the most reasonable place for a partial hookup. Getting solar hooked up is #1 priority! But if need be I will go and find a quiet spot to do the work or work in a Home Depot lot.

Sounds like a good plan Maki...

Yes, there are a few fires near me.. mostly contained already. They do try to stop fires near the town quickly. One is a mile or two from me... I've been told. There's smoke in the air... not much, but some.

This is the report from yesterday, before the late-afternoon hour of dry lightening strikes:
https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6887/

I have an evacuation warning. Fire is close but the locals do a good job of containing fires that threaten the town. I unlocked my gate so the deputy can get in to tell me if there's a real evacuation going on. I'm packing a few things.

I received this at our online group for this town - about five hours ago:

This morning, fire personnel are on the scene of a fire in the Doolittle Creek drainage, 2 miles northwest of Happy Camp.
The Doolittle Fire was discovered last night and is approximately 15 acres. Crews are engaged and are extending hose around the fire.
Please visit https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6887/ for information updates.

I have to say also - I am not panicking ... I've been through these things before. There isn't much wind today. I've known them to put out quite a few fires that were close to town. This isn't the first time I've gotten an evacuation warning, but I've never had to actually evacuate from this town.

Ah so, small so far, and included in the report from the Yreka GPS coordinates on Incident Web. Looks like it's up on the mountain, higher than the town, and has nearby FS access roads, all good. Good time to pack the van completely for an extended trip.

We just drove past the Redmond Oregon airport..........Two firefighting helos are currently operating from the airport

A JetRanger with a long line bucket and an orange Sikorsky with it's dangling water hose.......Where ?

Abnorm, on the situational awareness map there's a fire 16 miles north east of Redmond, about 9 miles north of Prineville. Looks like a small fire so far.

What map are you looking at? I don't see anything there on Incident Web. Prineville is the home base of a major wildfire fighting outfit. Every summer, there are usually fires all over the Bend area, especially on US 20 over the mountain to the Willamette Valley.
