It is not easy to find dry ice when you are out in the boonies.

Yes, Cosco or Walmart may have it, but it only lasts 24 hours and it is more expensive that regular ice.

And even if you lived next to a Walmart, at 1-3 dollars per pound, 10 pounds of the stuff per day is unrealistic, and you will change your mind pretty fast.
There is a reason dry ice is only used for 1 day shipments.

I quote from internet search:
"How long will 10 lbs of dry ice last?
24 hours
Dry ice has a short shelf life. You can't store it in your home freezer and keep it frozen as it needs to be at -109.3°F or -78.5° C or it will simply disappear as a gas. You can expect to lose five to 10 pounds in 24 hours.
Thank you so much for informing me. I had no idea it would not last long and could possibly gas myself.

That Alpicool seems like it would be a good item to have. I would use it as a freezer. I wonder if I would have enough power to run it with my 100 watts and 35ah battery...:/

It seems every time I turn around there is yet another expense that I underestimated. :dodgy:

I still have one remaining frozen turkey in the deep freeze. I wonder how much cooling capacity over ice that would give a regular cooler. :)

Great tip about putting a hard cooler into a soft cooler Qxxx... Is that how you do yours?

People using hard sided coolers might think about buying a larger "soft" sided cooler to stuff the hard one into. Should lenghten the ice melting time.
That would be a really big bag. You could also build additional insulation around the cooler with XPS and foam glue.

Yesterday my remote outside thermometer read 119 degrees. Wow. And of course we were calling the AC tech for the house heat pump. I ran both ac's in the van for a while. Climate change seems hotter to me. Here are today's temps:
Description: link to weather for today, noaa map then maps and video but my link morphed to seasonal outlook.

https://weather.com/https://graphical.weather.gov/sectors/conus.php?element=T

About my outside remote thermometer: this is giving me a reading from an unknown location probably a bird nest. So that is actually the temp at the top of a palm tree or something. Should have nailed it down so the bird couldn't get it.
Can't think of any other random news presently.

Dry ice is CO2, a greenhouse gas. You need more oxygen in the van, especially when it's closed up at night, not less. And yes to the cooler bit. And if you want to keep a turkey frozen in a van, better have 1000W of power, and more if you want to actually cook it for 3 hours. Here is the alternative.

I was just contemplating the cooling ability of frozen foods/meats as opposed to using ice. I am assuming a frozen turkey would put off more cold than a bag of ice cubes over time?... When the turkey is thawed I could put it on a spit over a fire and invite my nomad neighbors over to share a meal?

I was thinking a few steaks a few chicken breast etc etc wrapped in foil and frozen like bricks and a bag of ice would be better than just ice over a longer term?

I hope yer thermometer is well shaded, crofter. Otherwise it's like leaving a dog in a sealed up car in the sun, gag.

Yeah, you could also use blue foam camping pad around the cooler. I have a box that I keep my canned food in in the van, and as I've been in southern AZ in the winter when the temp was down in the low 20s for 10 days, I lined the box with this foam before this winter's trip..

A 30 amp hour battery really is not going to be sufficient to reliably run a compressor fridge 24/7 in hot weather. You might have to figure out a way to prioritize the accumulation of funds to have sufficient battery power and a reliable the battery charging system.

But some people who van dwell don't use refrigeration at all. A place to start would be to learn how they manage that. That way you could use a cooler now and again on grocery shopping days for refrigerated treats to hold them in the cooler on ice for a few days time. But you have to calculate the cost of the ice into your cost of those foods that require refrigeration.

It takes time to recover the total cost of investing in a power system and 12v compressor fridge. But you have to remember that each month you have it you are not having the money it cost to keep your food safe to eat then melt away into a puddle of water. So there is some immediate payback each and every day.

Gypsy, I went through all that. Turned out to be autoimmune conditions. Several. They are notoriously hard to diagnose. Rest, low stress and a healthy diet work the best unless it gets bad then you’ll need more serious meds. Also most doctors don’t know how to diagnose thyroid disorders so it may be that. They look at TSH period.
I’m a trained diamond grader though I only used it in my Etsy jewelry business so I know a lot about jewelry
Jewelry has little resale value EXCEPT online. I highly suggest Ruby Lane or Etsy even eBay in a pinch. It takes much longer to move but you get way more for it. If there are diamonds or more valuable stones (rubies, sapphires, emeralds) get it appraised. If not search online to see how much similar pieces are selling for. The higher the gold content the more it’s worth. 24 kt is pure gold so your 22 kt has value. Good luck, be well.

Hi LERCA ....are you still dealing with your autoimmune issues ?  I've been healthy all my life & always had a very good immune system (never got sick).   I'm so tired of dealing with this !!!!!

I just set up a Etsy shop for my jewelry today....it will be interesting ....never did anything like this before...

I wish you well also....thank you

I cut the tops off gallon water jugs and freeze stuff in them to keep the yeti cool. Three will fit in my cooler and works better than block ice or ice cubes. I also try to stay with pre cooked food to keep my cooler cleaner. If I am buying meat, I just cook it all before storing. I hate that yukky water mess that raw meat makes in my cooler.
I have thought of using dry ice, but there is that thing about the fumes it emits in the enclosed space of the van, so not using dry ice. If your cooler was on a back porch, that would be ok.

are your "bangles" bracelets?  If so you should also use the word bracelets in the product description. Not everyone will think to use the word bangles for them.  Getting the common alternative keywords into the product description is critical for bringing in lots of sales.   Second also start a pinterest page linked to that Etsy website.

I have been selling on Etsy for a number of years and Pinterest brings a ton of traffic to my Etsy website. That is because the items from my Pinterest page get shared over and over again and turn up in lots of people's pinterest searches, then they save them and that leads to more sharings and makes for lots of sales on Etsy. Keywords and good photos and alternate social media postings that lead back to your Etsy store are critical for a successful volume of sales in an Etsy shop. You do have good photos so you got that part done. But it is not enough just to put it on Etsy. You need to do more marketing tie-ins to lead people to your Etsy shop. Instagram is another one of those places where you post your photos and tie it back to your Etsy shop. Of course if you have a blog or youtube channel you also do the same thing with that.

You would need a very strong cooler rated as animal resistant if it is going to be left outside.

Thats a good review. It is nice that he showed power consumption. In fridge mode I could have enough power to run it.
The prices seem fair.. I just don't want/can't spend much more cash. I am near the end of build.. I would have thought expenses would be lower by now.

I will have to prioritize the last few bigger ticket items. If I include an alpicool... I would probably put that to the top of the list. and then the propane portable hotwater shower thing and then the olympic wave3 heater at last place. Of course 5 new tires should actually be first..LOL.. still have nearly 2k in expenses to go!!:((((

Makes me not happy.

I have a feeling build number 2 will be just jugs of water and an air mattress on the floor. My nieces husband owns a bar in the area... I wonder if he would let me harvest the beer cans for recycling?

Thanks Maki2...i thought bracelets and bangles were in same category...but i did add "bracelets" to tabs.....thanks !
I also took your advice and added to my Pinterest acct.   I rarely ever use it.  I have never sold anything before on the internet either....i rarely use Instagram...will add it eventually....i'm so tired from doing all this stuff now....lol   THX

@QXXX - thanks for the adorable cat videos. I watched them all. Those cats in the last one - some were really weird. I not only have my two cats here, but two ginger cats from next door are often here trying to get at the food bowl. One of them wants to fight with my male cat. Then there's a black waif of a cat who comes by at times. I think he or she might be feral.
Found another one for you. Somebody is making money off of cats. 279,000,000 (that's million) views on the channel !!!

Hi Gypsy
Yes I am still dealing with joint pain and swelling and other symptoms like dry eyes and mouth (Sjögrens) and some mild fatigue but about 80% better. Used to be bedridden after ten minutes gardening and cleaning the garage now I can work on things for several hours with breaks. My doctor who was a professor at USC gave me an article he had written saying my conditions would get better, worse or stay the same. I thought he was an idiot but they got really bad. I was so bad I was disabled and also diagnosed with fibromyalgia. When I stopped working I got much better. I think the physical and mental stress of my work was killing my body. The exhaustion cleared up when my doctor added a second thyroid medication. But it took about a year to heal.

Autoimmune conditions  (which actually means your immune system is fighting itself instead of outside pathogens, it’s the opposite of weak) and fibromyalgia seem to be more common among women and it’s so frustrating that something not very exotic is so ignored. I had doctors tell me I was crazy or making it up.  Again if possible I recommend Dr. Daniel Wallace at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. He is truly gifted at diagnosing.

Your jewelry is gorgeous and your photos also. If I come into money I’ll buy those bangles!!! So beautifully crafted. I agree with everything Maki wrote and if you won’t mind I’d like to add a couple of things.

If possible find a model or use yourself (I got good at flattering angles on my aging hands) Some people like to be artistic but this is a business and people are paying a lot of money so I used to photograph next to a ruler and a coin to show size. Then on a model. Give measurements of everything including ring size and earring length.
Don’t model earrings, people are weird about that even though rubbing alcohol cleans them. I also used to write that all my jewelry was cleaned before packaging which it was.

I used to use tiny ziploc bags (sold at Walmart) inside of brown gift boxes and I’d use my Michaels coupons to put pretty 3 D scrapbooking stickers on my gift boxes then fill the mailer with shredded paper or bubble wrap. I always paid extra for the 3 rd party insurance Etsy offered. Know that if the jewelry gets bent in transit your insurance will reimburse your buyers once they return the jewelry. On the other hand if tracking shows the item as delivered and the buyer claims it is stolen you are not responsible. Only a few people in six years tried to scam me but you are selling expensive items. Protect yourself.

I also can’t stress enough what Maki said: use every word you’re allowed. That’s how you stand out and it’s how people find you. For example: dangling earrings, post earrings, vintage 22 kt gold earrings, Indian gold earrings, Indian earrings, gold earrings, Indian jewelry, 22 kt and gemstone earrings-every word you can think of that you would use to search. Use as many of those words in your titles and down below as allowed. And people use different terms as Maki said: bracelets, bangles, bangle set, bracelet set, twisted bracelet etc I know it’s exhausting but it pays off in the end. People use all kinds of strange terms to search with try and think of them.
One thing I did was search for similar pieces and then see what came up first in my search and copy their terms.

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. It’s one of the main reasons I’m still in Los Angeles. The sheer number of good doctors for my never ending weird/rare health problems. I know my dad lived 30 years in Tucson and really trusted the Mayo Clinic in AZ. So I hope they help. Don’t give up though there is a doctor somewhere that can figure this out. I worked with a gifted infectious disease specialist named Dr. Chia also when we thought it was chronic fatigue. It’s so hard but you’ll get through this. I will be thinking of you.

@Qxxx - thanks for the watermelon cat video. Such beautiful cats!! Great idea for a YouTube channel.

Today I pruned a rose bush and mowed a section of the yard, made and edited a video for my Booktube channel, and read for a while while resting on my hammock in the shade this afternoon. Nice day - now I'll go read some more.

As to the 13 word strings you are allowed on Etsy, you don't need to repeat words that are in the title description of the product as those will show up in a search. For instance the keyword string below does not need to contain necklage or earings if that is in the title. Because I sell internationally I will sometimes use the name in another language, but I also try to pick up words for categories such in your case those words could be jewelry, adornments, accessories.

But take a look at this fun sight, a whole list of words and phrases you can use to describe jewelry!
I will have to explore more topics on this site, I think I need to bookmark it for my own reference.

Got the wheels back on my trailer and did a test to make sure the brakes engaged by hooking the wires to a 12v power supply

I felt like a trip to the autoparts store was merited so I could get a thin walled 13/16" socket to torque the lug nuts. All I had was a 12 point that was from years back, it was made for spark plugs. It did OK for removing the nuts but I wanted something more substantial to keep in my on the road tool kit so I can properly take wheels off and put them back on again if needed.. Of course then I had to research to come up with the manual for the axle to make sure I know the proper torque. At least I do own a torque wrench and Boeing trained me how to use it properly.

I also needed a new battery charger so I purchased that at the auto parts store as well. Sunday I sold a 4" Dremel tablesaw I no longer needed so that provided the funds for my shopping trip!

@Maki - so cool to hear of you buying tools and even knowing what they are and how to use them. I wish I was like that.

So today, I don't even have a plan yet. I got up late and called the pharmacy so I know I'm going there this afternoon. Other than that, I don't know what I'll be doing. Hopefully something productive. I'd better go figure it out.

State removes infamous ‘Into the Wild’ bus.

https://www.adn.com/alaska-news/202...-bus-after-years-of-hiker-rescues-and-deaths/

I think many folks here can relate to the path that Chris McCandless took. I know many of my paths criss-crossed his.
".....content with the isolation, the beauty of nature around him, and the thrill of living off the land"

It is too bad they removed the bus...as if people are going there JUST to see the bus. A lack of insight on the behalf of the State. (whodathunk)
Any wagers on if the State will put up perimeter fencing around the site when visitors continue to arrive?

The book is great. The movie is not bad ....for a Sean Penn creation.
The soundtrack is excellent.
