For about $25 you can make a plywood base, using 2x2 cleats to fasten the plywood uprights to the big piece of half inch plywood. You wind up with a bunch of cubbies underneath for your gear.

The cots are much lighter if that is a consideration.

Almost done with my screen room repair job which was not quick or easy as it needed renegineering to prevent the same thing from  happening again. of course I ran out of the tube of the one adhes ive that would stick quickly and securely to the tent fabric. That meant a drive from Quartzsite to the Walmart ij th e town of Parker. Quick Grip by Beacon is the glue I needed. i got several tubes of it as over the years I have found it to bbe reliable and useful for crafting and household repairs.

It was a humid hot morning here without much breeze which made it difficult to want to work. But all that is left to do is install some half inch grommets.  B & C I will be using that 2 lb hammer you gifted to me to form the grommet halves together. Makes quick work of that job.

^^^YW. I'm glad I was useful for something!

I left the house Saturday and went to my brothers. The next day I went to my sisters. I am now in central Texas camped by water. A nice relief after the desert asphalt or pavement (whichever you prefer). Windy, overcast and 68F for a high. Threatening rain but I'll take it.

Stay hydrated everyone!

Moving day has to happen on the 16th. TodayI am busy cutting kits for an order and also sorting through all the stuff in my trailer and car. Sorting out food , tools, odds and ends for donating to the thrift store. The trailer was quick to go through, the Honda Element will take a lot longer as I have to empty it, sort and repack what I want to keep. Going to head south for a few days to see a dentist in Mexico and do the pharmacy thing too. Then north to join the annual snow bird migration pattern.

Breezy today, downright windy tomorrow with gust just over 30mph. But at least it will be a few degrees cooler for several days. No rain in the forecast which is good as I would have a rough time of it trying to cleanout and repack my car if it was raining.

I'm 9 days from hitting the road and today I'm making sure that I have everything I'll need and that it's going to fit where I need it to. I'll be staying within the state, but this is the first time I've ever done anything like this by myself. I am so excited!

OMG...i'm excited for you too !   Good for you that you have the guts to do this....i wish you the VERY best !

I'm up on a mountain within reasonable striking distance of Indio CA where I get my second shot of Moderna Friday. It's 35 degrees outside and 54 inside with my Wave 3 on high. It doesn't feel that cold because I'm two ft from the heater and it's pointed directly at me. Gotta love radiant heat, or any heat for that matter.
It's gonna hit 26 degrees before the sun shines and I'll be toasty in my sleeping bag (with the heat turned off) way before then.

I tried to wait it out in the high desert but it got too hot for me so I boogied. After I get the second shot over with, I'm free to roam again  :D

I get these adrenaline rushes sometimes when i think about JUST DOING IT.....and not being 100% ready....I SCARE MYSELF !!!!

In the past i did just that.....just took off like a bat outta hell....it was exhilarating....i even had 2 children.....now they are grown...but i am become like a child....fragile & weak....

i recently started taking GINSENG ....and i have a plan to take off in September.....

Finally found some walking/hiking shoes that fit right. My feet are hard to fit. They're big, 10-1/2 but I get 11s because I cannot stand to have my toes confined, heels are narrow but the rest of my foot is wide. Since I got laid off last March I've worn nothing but Birkenstocks or sheepskin slippers. Our winter was so mild with so little snow I hardly had to wear my sheepskin boots but those are nice and loose too. It's going to be weird wearing shoes. I've got a week to break them in.

Birkenstock makes and sells a replacement cork foot bed separate for their shoes that is identical to their Arizona sandals if I remember right for around $30. I just order those and get some cheap larger size slip on Walmart shoes and put the foot beds in them and make sure my feet have plenty of room.

I bought a pair of Birkenstock insoles in 2012 when I was working on cement floors and the arch in my right foot fell.  Oh man, I could hardly walk it hurt so bad.  Those insoles saved me.  And I'm still using them, they've lasted this long!  I put them right into my new shoes today.

Have you tried 10-1/2 W?
Not always on the shelf, though.
I have similar feet. 11 works, but I like the closer fit of a 10-1/2 W better.

Yep, I couldn't hardly walk into the store and walked out with no problems, really amazing! I you get rich and want some 20 year hiking boots that come with a really good long lasting arch support Danner sells a boot that uses replaceable Vibram soles but finding a shoe repair to mount them properly is becoming pretty impossible. I've had two pairs in 40 years, and had them resoled every 3 or 4 years, last time I had them resoled it was around $85. I figured they cost me about $40 a year but they have prevented several broken ankles and foot injuries crossing a lot of rough country.

The ones I got are Danners!  They make a beautiful boot/shoe.  I guess these are technically a low hiking boot but they kind of look like good athletic shoes. If I had been unable to get a good fit in the ladies medium I was going to look at the men's wide. Except non of the men's in the line were this pretty dusty purple. lol
