10:30. At a state park.  The fire is quietly crackling. The lake is quietly lapping. The kids across the way are throwing tantrums and screaming their bloody heads off. At least 2 of them have to be toddlers and are overly excited and tired. They belong in bed. Or in bag. Or whatever the parents brought for the little beasts to sleep in.

Call the park ranger. Or contact the campground host. SOMEONE has to be there. Whomever you are to contact should be in the papers you got when you checked in.

For what it's worth, the parents probably had a long day themselves.

Earplugs my friend, earplugs.

Mandatory equipment for everybody should include earplugs and sleep masks.

I've had the same experience. Unfortunately, we were camped right next to the Camp Hosts and they did nothing. I didn't complain because they could hear the same screaming and crying that I heard (at one state park) or the same loud music and laughter that I heard (at a different state park).

My experience--which may be totally different from everybody else's--is that popular state parks in Ohio are noisy all day and all night. Compare that to a private campground where you could hear a pin drop after 10pm.

On the weekends, Friday night seems to be the worst. People seem to be wound up from the road trip to camp. Saturday nights seem to be a little more subdued. Everyone seems to be spent from a day of hiking, sunburned from a day of water sports, worn out from a day of playing on their ORVs or hung over from a night of drinking.

The noise doesn't bother me too much, just don't physically invade my camping space by cutting though to go to the loo.

The only problem I have is running generators all night. I can hear the "quiet" Honda 3000's from hundreds of feet away. If you need electricity at night in the forest, stay home.

I can hear the attwood furnaces too, but the only one that bothers me is my own!!! I actually like the sound of the burner in RV furnaces and water heaters. Just not the indoor fan.

this thread highlights all the reasons I don't stay in popular campgrounds. highdesertranger

Bet you can be louder than them, if you try. Just tell the parents you're trying to drown out the noise of their kids. Unsuccessfully.

Yes.. sadly.. earplugs have become my friend.

Although I am currently a 'static' RVer since I bought my 'home base' two years ago, it has become (at times) like 'alternate 1985' in BacK To The Future!
All caused by 'new' neighbors that have moved in on me since I got here :(:(:( WHICH is one of the reason WHY I'm eventually taking my show on the road with you guys on here!! lol :)

ANYWAY.. I call them the 'weekenders'. SOME City folks seem to have no clue how to behave in the country, or any respect for full time dwellers. I guess they think it's ALL weekenders?? For me to remain sane, I'm learning to go to my 'zen place', put in the earplugs and deal with it. OR... I have been known to call the dang sheriff a time or two. Sadly it takes them 45 minutes to show up. (I know, right?!)

So if they're too annoying, at least you HAVE a park ranger handy. I would also agree with the other posters suggestions for sure: camp in places more serene if possible.

When I worked I lived for the weekend, now that I'm a boondocker I dread it because the "Weekenders" all show up to spread their misery with life--trying to cram a weeks worth of happiness into two days. A very sad way to live.

We used to live in public and private campgrounds in/around Chattanooga TN. The fulltimers were quiet all week. The weekenders on the other hand were like school kids that have been turned out for the summer on the last day of school.

Years ago, we lived for a couple of months in High Falls (public campground) near Seneca SC. It was over July 4th. It was memorable. That was when we decided to not be in a public campground, or certain types of private campgrounds, over holiday weekends. I don't think the park rangers slept at all that weekend. Many campers were booted from the park all thru the weekend, including late at night.

I got idiots doing fireworks late at night in the residential neighbourhood across the street from the RV park. I got ear plugs that I wear every night. My site (and my bedroom) is backed up to a busy street. I always have a supply of ear plugs from the hardware store. And my next "site" will not be a whole lot different. My daughter has already said they have been shooting off fireworks in her neighbourhood. Holiday will be over soon. And I will still have my ear plugs. Comes in handy when parking overnight in parking lots.

All the better reason to bookdock on blm land, or buy your own few acres in the desert. You can still find property in Elko County Nv for $800 an acre. U may need to haul in water, be 45 min from town, and use a dedicated easement to get to your land but you will have quiet.
