Several folks have mentioned that some truck stop chains issue a card allowing showers after a certain number of gallons of fuel have been purchased. How many gallons of fuel does a driver have to buy before enough credits for a shower are earned? And how long does the shower credit last before it expires?

When I was driving truck I had a cards for Loves, Flying J, Pilot cards.  Usually I would fill-up 50-100gl...  Then I would get a free shower.  I think it more to do with how much you spent vs the amount of Gas.  In 2010 I was paying about $3.50 to $5 per gallon of diesel.  When I get back on the road w/my Jeep and trailer I am going to reactivate my cards just in case.  I think Flying J has cards for RVers. Also most of the showers were really clean. Flying J in Kingman AZ, and any Little America.

All I can say is Ewwww!

I don't know what your experience is with showers at truck stops (or travel centers, as they prefer to be called these days) but 99% of the ones I've used have been great. Clean, modern, with toilets, sinks, wastebasket, electricity for my hair clippers, good towels, lots of hot water and cleaned between customers. But since they're about $10 to $12, they're a bit of a treat for me.

Amazing how you can get spoiled with technology conveniences. Started using a Flying J card for inside purchases (sodas, coffee, and food) then realized you can save on gas by using the card, too. The pumps used so far make you go inside to prepay, then you pump your gas and if the amount is different than the pre-paid amount you go inside to reconcile. Golly- almost like the days before electronic card readers on gas pumps!

One of the clerks said not to worry about coming back inside, that the pump would take care of the balance. I'm just not quite that trusting yet.

But back to the main part of the thread - sometimes 'reviews' and comments can give you a clue if you research in advance or lurk near the driver's lounge and just ask a driver.

But then again, sometimes it's all just part of the experience. My fondest memory of South Korea was going to a bathhouse after a week 'in the field' with the Marines in the pre-convenience facility days, paying extra for a 14" x 22" towel (still have it), and discovering (too late) that the shower runoff was recycled back into the showers with a pump. Agggggghhhhhhh!!!!!

I don't know personally, but all I see they are clean.

I DO know personally, and they are by and large VERY clean. Cleaned after each use. Love's are nice, no card for gas purchases. 13.00, Pilot/Flying J has a card, 15 gallons gets you half a shower credit. 10 day expiration. T/A-Petro Im not sure about. I travel in my van for a living, escorting oversize trucks. I try to fuel at Pilot/J and pretty much always have showers.

Is there anyone else on here that does pilot car/escorting?
