Food Stamps are available for anyone with low income who qualifies. Some working people can get part of the allotted amount based on income.
I'm on sorta the low end of social security and qualify for a few dollars of food stamps per month. I don't apply since its not enough given the hassle.

Sigh....if only I didnt have to pay for the food I eat, I could spend that money on gas then
I could afford to travel too

Wanna hear one worse than that???
In the Phoenix area they have a FOOD tax.
I nearly fell over when I heard...never heard of tax on groceries you buy.

Thanks for that info.

I just found out a few days ago that the county I am currently staying in is 66 out of 67 on the lowest economic demographic scale in the state. I went out to look driving around a bit...wow. The grocery store and the subsidizable WIC items kinda' floored me too. I lived 40 minutes from here, for several years, but that was about 15 years ago and that 40 minute drive still takes you to a whole different world.

I am not uninformed about poverty, heck I lived one county down from East St. Louis for the better part of a year. Parts of Canada suck too, I live rural where it is much easier to be broke (pick me)...its just been a while since I have been urban. I just feel crappy about people not having their basic needs met and having been robbed of their survival (i.e. cooking, home repair) skills.

Next week I'm out of the city for a week and then soon to be camping....life is better there...*sigh*.

Kevin, lots of us travel full time on a budget that in many cases make people ask how we do it. All I can tell them is that we live within our means and strive to follow our dreams.
Some people roll lots of miles, some work a while and roll a while. We find what works to allow us the life we love.
Us??...we had a wonderful 4700 mile 7 month summer. When it cooled off in N. Nevada we split for S. Arizona.
We'll have a hoot (on a budget) here for the winter. In spring we'll go somewhere yet to be decided.

Hope to see ya on the road.

Yup, we get along in smaller towns and rural. We don't mind loading up water/supplies and camping on BLM for a couple weeks. At Bend, Or we had a really private chunk of BLM....nobody around that we could find. It was a great place to get away from it all.
