spiced ham is alright, good long term meat substitute, strong flavor though,a little diced in to scrambled eggs, good for your pot of pinto's,fry it up and make a sandwich, not on the healthy side of food though

I love Spam, but I think it's an acquired taste as the first time I tried It I thought it was kinda gross.
Spam with mustard! Awesome
Spam as bacon replacement, almost as good as bacon!
I use it for that too. (Bacon) For me, the key is to slice it as thin as I can and then fry it well done but not burnt.

Spam and bacon are as alike as steak and a Micky Dees burger, certainly one cannot replace the other.  But I do eat both - bacon and Spam - sparingly.  Both have too much sodium and preservatives to eat too often.  My Doc wouldn't like it either.

Great thread; brings back great memories!

As we used to say, "Spam am the ham what am!"

When my wife and I were first married and living on a tight budget back in the late 60's she used to make mac and cheese from a recipe from her mom. It was fantastic! But, it had some diced ham in it, which we rarely had on hand. So what did she use . . .

Mr. Spam to the rescue! Cook it a bit, and dice it, stick it into mac and cheese; totally enjoyable. Ol' speedhighway46 never knew the difference, until this morning when I was telling her about this posting, and said I wanted to get a can of Spam and experiment.

Thanks to all who have contributed.

If ingredients matter to you, be sure to read the label. The original is just basically pork, spices, and salt... many of the others have a big list of ingredients including "mechanically separated chicken" which is (to me) disgusting.

Have a can that I always kept in my camping gear, like backup. I hadn't opened it after quite a few trips so I got a marker and dated it. I still have it in my gear. It is dated 1971 and I'll bet it's still good!

By the way "mechanically" was the butchers name on the Spam chicken prep line.

Being English, this won't bother him at all.......    :D

This discussion reminded me of an article thatc ame across my news feed a few weeks ago

Processed meats rank alongside smoking as cancer causes – WHO

But, then everything does, these days, doesn't it?

I'm currently house sitting and my clients have a couple of cases of Spam. I remember liking what my Mom made with the stuff. but, it's been many, many years since then. I think about opening a can, daily, just to see what it tastes like.

Give em a few months, years and they'll come back with another study saying "whoops" we were wrong it's actually being left handed that causes all the worlds ills !

BUMP!
Just found out another current member is a SPAM fan. :)

Here's the porn he enjoyed, for our fellow fans:

SPAM & onions, FTW!

I'll post more pork porn, and notes, soon-ish. :)

Found one more completely new-to-here picture...

I used to look all year for the most disgusting list of ingredients on a can of potted meat or vienna sausage and get one for my BIL's stocking on Christmas. He is English
They eat kidney pie over there but you have to boil the p*ss out of it. I tried it finished as I'm not wastful but didn't order again. The funniest one was in Ireland the 1st morning in Dingle the B&B owner asked my if I wanted pudding with my breakfast, sure I was one vacation. She asked dark or light I said both please. It was blood pudding, ate it but won't otder it again either. :p
