From this thread I have learned there is such a thing as spam sushi. And also 'partially de-fatted beef fat' (is the can only half-full?).
I'll take this as proof the end times are near.

Those of us who stock SPAM, are thereby ready for The End Times, and are thus Reverse Tempting Fate.

Good suggestion! :)
After I made the decision to try vandwelling, I tried out a bunch of single serve canned foods, including SPAM spread.
I felt it was overly salty and not as good value as a "SPAM Single", but that's subjective. Its main advantage is that it's ready to use (Singles are too, but most prefer them fried). The cans are tiny, so definitely worth stocking as a treat/whatever. :)
I'll post up pic(s), once I have full use of my laptop. :)

For those who don't know what "SPAM" has been repurposed by Hormel to stand for, here's two somewhat recent TV promos (15 seconds each):

Walmart online sells more variety than most of their stores, so if you want to try some more exotic types, please take a look. So far, my favorite is Teriyaki. It leaves a particularly pleasant aroma that lingers for a while. :)

Shoulder, Pork And Ham is what the letters meant.

Very close, and that is what it's made of (pork shoulder). :)
Technically, the name is from "spiced ham".

However, I really like Hormel's retconned modern version...
it only takes 15 seconds to learn it. ;)

I agree but Spam came out in the late '20s & that "SPiced hAM was named by a relitive in 1937 & he "won" $100. You can also can your own meat like you do veggies.

This thread got my mouth watering for some SPAM...

I always cut a slab of SPAM in half and bag the unused half for another meal; usually SPAM tacos.

Tonight it was grilled SPAM and cheese. The SPAM slices were grilled lightly, then I assembled and grilled the sandwiches. Borrowing from a recipe on another thread here I grilled the bread coated with mayo and a sprinkling of parmesan. The cheese was a mild cheddar; I think it might actually be better with "American" cheese slices. I'll have to pick up a package.  The bread is sliced from a Walmart $1 Italian loaf.  Had a little creamy horseradish sauce on the side for dipping.

Mmmm, looks good, and tasted great!

I used to go to a place popular for its spam sushi.  Not so great.

I like it best Hawaiian style, over rice and sunny side up eggs.  I don't really like it any other way.  It's very, very salty, and the rice and "gravy," so to speak, from runny egg yolks helps temper the salt and makes for a good overall flavor combo.

Your pics are now particularly welcome.

Awesome SPAM sammich porn pic! :) It never occurred to me to add SPAM to Polar Vortex grilled cheese. :D
Please share more SPAM and other practical food tips. :)

Well said! SPAM & eggs are perfect together. I suspect most SPAM lovers got hooked by that, and the naysayers have never tried them together (that's why I think Hormel's new-ish promos are so spot on).
I've never tried them with rice. Based on your recommendation, I will. Thanks for the tip! :)

I like to try new things with SPAM, so more suggestions are welcome.
In the 2nd Hormel promo, they show it fried with green peas and carrots, then served over rice. I have dehydrated (or freeze dried? not sure) of both, so now have something to do with them. :)

P.S. The first time I verified one of those promos, YouTube's "next" recommendations included a Vegan food vid.

Pretty simple, just consider a warm tortilla as a great SPAM delivery system.

I keep it real basic, i don't care for the typical "taco" that ends up like a salad bar exploded, then smothered in sour cream.

Brown the SPAM in a skillet; I like it cut like this as it doesn't readily spill out of the taco. I guess a couple slabs would be good as well.

Warm the tortillas and assemble. I like a good slathering of green chile, it really complements the SPAM. My favorite is Hatch 505 roasted green chiles.

A little grated cheese to finish and I'm happy.

I think my next SPAM experiment will be a SPAM breakfast burrito with SPAM 'n Eggs.

Good choice!
After you've assembled the SPAM 'n eggs burrito, have you tried frying it? Similar to TacoBell's breakfast crunchwrap.
Here's one of my lame but tastee experiments:

Fellow (edible) SPAM fans, please mark Sept 23 on your calendars...

Pumpkin Spice Spam

For real, not April Fool's.
It's a "limited edition" that will likely be recurring seasonally, if it's popular enough (and why wouldn't it be?!?).

It may only be available at their online store and Walmart, according to this:
https://www.brandeating.com/2019/08/new-pumpkin-spice-spam-available-starting-september-23-2019.html

I'm thinking that might work well in muffins, or with pancakes. :)

Last weekend, while working on my storage unit, I found a small box of canned meat, including Vienna sausages (blech!), and one regular sized can of my favorite flavor of SPAM: Teriyaki. :)
Will probably feast upon it for the 9/11 to Nimda anniversaries week.

I love pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread and pumpkin ice cream and pumpkin milk shakes. but somehow pumpkin Spam does not sound appealing at all. I mean something's just shouldn't be mixed together and this is one of them in my book. highdesertranger

HDR, while I do agree conceptually, Science Demands that somebody Field Test this. I volunteer. :D

I think this has potential with pancakes and real maple syrup.
I still have a couple of #2 cans of pancake mix, plus some maple syrup (privately harvested by a flake, so it may not be viable).

I wouldn't have thought Teriyaki SPAM was any good, but years ago I was travelling near the SPAM Museum (yes, it's a real thing) in Austin MN, so had to pop in for a look. It's free, and they have Free Samples. That day it was Teriyaki, and I was impressed enough that I bought a few cans (not there - I waited until I found a non-inflated price). Goes extremely well with eggs & veg. Aroma Therapy FTW. :)
If you can't find it locally, Walmart's online store has it at the same price as regular SPAM.

well you're the guinea pig good luck and let us know what you think. I am kinda funny in that I don't mind Maple syrup getting on my bacon but I can't stand the maple syrup flavored bacon. it might have something to do with the real maple syrup vs the fake maple flavored sugar water. I only like the real stuff. highdesertranger

I don't know, Kaylee, spam just doesn't sound very good for an old man like me with the usual old man issues. 1369mg of sodium and 27g of fat with 10g saturated fat per 12oz can.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_(food)#Nutritional_data

I have a Winco 10oz can of chicken breast here, and it's only 320mg sodium and 1g fat. Plus 12oz spam in a can is $2.68, while 10oz can of chicken is about $2.74. Both have approx same amount of protein.

OTOH, they shipped 15,000,000 cans of spam per week to the soldiers in WW2. Probably 10 cans apiece per week. I assume they didn't cook it.

https://www.mailguard.com.au/blog/what-does-spam-stand-for/

And for all you SPAM lovers Costco will have on sale the 25% less sodium version, 8 12 oz cans.
Sale starts September 4 2019.
