News coverage of pre-storm almost (or completely) empty shelves, seems to be a ritual, wherever I've lived.
Northeast Wisconsin is rare, in that they have difficulty finding them.
Instead, they stake out the parking lots, and show the near-frozen few who sheepishly admit they weren't stocked up (often they're college kids, first time away from home, so it's an understandable mistake).
The day this thread was started, the (Green Bay) local news was so frustrated in their obligatory quest, that they covered Seattle, with great enthusiasm.
So, yeah, you were officially deemed to be facing Real Winter!
This was the first series of storms where I wasn't well stocked up.
Just before the Polar Vortex, when I returned to the motel after a weekend in my (broken down) van, I goofed and forgot to bring some key bins/containers, including my spices/etc, cooler items (cheese & margarine), and pretty much _ALL_ my meat.
One week later, I had eaten all my MREs, and was seriously considering opening a #2 can of TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein, aka "fake meat").
Fortunately, I suddenly remembered that Walmart had been hyping their new-ish 2-day delivery thing, checked their site, and ended up ordering just enough (including 3 kinds of shelf stable meat) to qualify for free shipping, while not "over" ordering stuff I have plenty of in my van (e.g. ordered "Treet" instead of SPAM).
I even got some caffeinated drink sticks (phew!).
That begs the question:
Has anyone successfully had a major outfit ship items directly to their van?
I'm thinking a cross between Harry Potter ("The Cupboard under the stairs"), and the pizza delivery in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High".
P.S. If you haven't seen it, web search for this WI ice vs truck vs cop car:
Ashwaubenon snow police crash
Even on completely level areas, ice wins.
Good luck to you all!
