Greetings!

Living on the road is a dream I've had in the back of my mind for years, but with recent circumstances it's come to the forefront, and has been practically all I can think about for the last couple weeks!

I've already started making preparations to vacate my apartment, and searching for a vehicle. Looking probably for a van, as it's just me & myself, and I'm a minimalist. Any advice on what to look for or what to avoid would be appreciated!

A friend referred me to this site once I started talking everyone's ears off about my upcoming quest. I look forward to getting to know you, learning from you, and contributing back once I get on the road!

You've arrived at a great place.   It will depend on how much you want to spend to get your basic Van outfitted.
It could be simple or quite nice.  $$$ will drive most of your choices.

If you wish to look at the link at the bottom of this post it is a small web site about converting a Van for week end or extended travels.  But it is basic.   There are some items I need to revise in it and I'll try to take care of it before long.

All the best !

Welcome to the CRVL forums Satellite5812! You're starting a fantastic journey.

To help you learn the ins and outs of the.se forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome! Before we can give you specific advice we need to know more about your plans. Otherwise we can only give you generalities.

Can you do your own mechanical work or do you need to have a shop do it?
How much comfort do you need?
Where will you spend most of your time, cities or country?.
How much will you travel?
How much money can you spend for the van.
What;s your monthly budget?

I know that seems intrusive, but all that information determines our advice to you.
Bob

First off, Welcome! If you need advice on picking a vehicle, PM me. I'm a mechanic, and would love to give advice if you'd have it. Do you have any ideas on what all you'll need/want to bring and how much space you'll need? I'm eager to help! Have fun here, and cheers!

Oh, wow- thanks for the warm welcome everyone! (Just discovered the PM feature, which told me there'd been replies) Especially thankful for the tips & tricks thread link, lots of good info! If all goes well maybe I'll get to meet some of you in person at the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous :)

Glad to see you're settling in. Do you have a vehicle picked out that suits you?

I do! I'm going to buy my van tonight! Currently in the process of getting rid of all my stuff... still more excited than scared :)

What kind of van are you getting? Be sure to post pics for us too!
