This is not my event, but if anybody here is interested it's open to all. I went to the last one and met some really cool people. There were about 35 vans, with about 6 people people living full-time. The rest of us were dreamers and wanna-be's. It was really cool to look at other people's builds and chat about solar systems, alternator wiring, etc.

Good times.

It's on Fiesta Island in San Diego. Once you're on the island you'll follow some handmade signs to go about 3/4 around the island until you see a bunch of vans.

My timing is off. Vacation started yesterday. I'll be in San Diego this weekend before heading north to Seattle. Last day of vacation is Nov 3rd. Maybe next year..

This is the 2nd event, about 6 weeks or so after the first. Keep your eyes open and I'm sure there will be more soon.

Despite the relatively small size, Aluminess and Weldtec Designs showed up at the first one in September. It seems to have some good visibility. One of the organizers fathers is an electrician and will be doing some sort of instructional session at this next one.

The vanlife gathering was a lot of fun this weekend. In case anybody is ever interested in similar events in the future, I highly recommend it. A whole bunch of vans, van people, and wannabe van people hanging out, talking shop, and checking out each other's vans.

This is about my third drone flight, so the camera work isn't the best - please be kind. The first 2 minutes shows all the vans, after that it might be pretty boring:

I really have a great time just chatting with like-minded people. Meeting fulltimers and talking to them about their experiences. Meeting other weekend warriors who are struggling with similar questions. Inspiring other newcomers who are trying to get started. Every time I hang out with other vanners, it helps me get a little closer to the mental state I need to make the jump next year.

Was the get-together an overnight thing ? If so, were there camping fees ?
Thanks........KinA

The event was roughly 10am-10pm.Fiesta Island closes at 10pm, but we were there until almost midnight and there were plenty of others still there. The island is free. Camping is not allowed but some people have stayed there overnight without a problem. I didn't like the idea of bringing woken up in the middle of the night so we stealth camped in a quiet neighborhood near Ocean Beach.
