Crazy idea haven't seen elsewhere - any help appreciated. I'm retired on social security and have been renting a bedroom in private residences for the last 10 years at around $600 t0 $650 per month. My current landlord is losing his place in a dispute with his HOA over a special assessment he can't  pay. I have to move. I have no vehicles. Have been prepping the funding to get my own rigs to do full time nomad, but am presently short the money. So I thought rather than get into another sticks & bricks, why not explore renting a spot with a full time nomad with enough space. Don't need a lot.  Have a CO drivers license and can help with driving. I can cook. Easy to get along with. Am OK with a probationary period. "Rent" can be structured to be tax free as part of the annual estate tax gift exclusion. Doable? And what are the issues I should consider.

Consider a seasonal cooking job with housing furnished! You could come out way ahead.

You can rent a trailer in a spot in an RV park in Quartzite AZ. You would have it all to yourself. Of course you cant take it out of the space and travel in it. But the town is easy to get around in by bicycle. Plus there are quite a few people that come here and then sell their RVs. It is a plave to start off and you will be in a c ommunity of like minded people who are full time, nomadic lifestyle folks.

Sorry, I don't believe there are many of us here on this forum (or anywhere), that would sacrifice their privacy to take on a renter inside of a small space like a van, or a small class C RV.

This is an interesting topic. There are (were, before covid) models like "couch surfing" and "airBnB" (when renting a room). I think "couch surfing" relies on some type of "community reputation" to weed out the "undesirable people" (whatever that community decides this means). Another take is Bob's "HOWA resource centers" which might allow a nomad to rent a room for a month (or two?) while doing a build, getting vehicle repairs, receiving medical treatment, etc.

I can't see a renter in a van. On the other hand, this could be a great learning experience for someone new to the road. A fishing boat can be quite small and several people might live on it for weeks. (Yes, I come from a fishing family, fishing off Alaska, South America, etc.)

Welcome to the CRVL forums mattvei! You may qualify for a HOWA minivan. The application process should be opening soon for the spring no-build build. Scroll down on this page for more information - https://homesonwheelsalliance.org/programs/

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

From time to time there are posts looking for a driver. You might search those out and see if they sre still looking for a driver.

I think the space is too small to work, but some close couples do it.

Do you currently have any vehicle?  Could that be modified into a living space?  Folks have been known to live in rather small vehicles.

Could you also consider a tent?

Most of the full-timers on this group have very limited space and I doubt that they would be able to take on an additional person.

You didn’t mention your age or financial situation, but are you physically able to do any work?  That might be necessary to raise enough money to purchase a vehicle for living.  There was a recent posting in the money section about ways for nomads to earn money.  Check the following...

Your chances might increase if you got a CDL.  Some motorhomes are huge and there would probably be some people who would welcome a driver with experience driving large vehicles. Cooking would be a bonus.

Bonding? Might look into that.
