Obama has signed an executive order to allow FEMA to seize your stockpiles of food in the event of an "emergency". Wonder if the taking of your 2nd amendment rights has anything to do with that ?

Let's just hope it's his ship that sinks !

Seems to be a bit of spin going on. Havent read the entire order, but one site focuses on labor. The order authorizes the hiring of labor, which the site spins onto 'forcd labor'. Nowhere does it authorize forcing someone to work.

More later after I've actually read the entire order.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press...order-national-defense-resources-preparedness

The order sets up responsibilites of depertments within the federal government to come up with plans- withing their particular areas of expertise - in case of national emergency. It talks about CONTRACTING TO PURCHASE items, and setting up LABOR REQUIREMENTS. It encourages plans for subsidies to research certain areas which would beneficial to national preparedness.

I am no Obama fan. In my book, he is among the least efficient presidents to hold the post, and his ideas are detrimental to the economic welfare of the country.

That being said, and forgive me a minor rant, I detest those who use the media to misstate - either through intent or ignorance - facts. There is nothing in the recent document of March 16 which addresses seizing food supplies or - as another blogger put it - forcing people into labor. Plus, I find it rather depressing that people - in general - will accept a spin on something, and pass it along as gospel, without researching the facts.

Rant over. It was not addressed at any individual, just a commentary on the human race, in general.

* Nor am I perfect - if there's something in the reading of the order I missed, I will accept a correction gladly.

And how would they know who has food?

No problem, since the Patriot Act (signed by Bush) would allow them to dig deep in finding stuff.

The feds have always had broad powers in times of national emergency and the anti-hoarding laws are just one example.

X2 on the spin. If one just glanced briefly at the headlines on prepper websites, it makes it seem worse than it actually is and of course blames Obama for everything. The basic law has been on the books since '39 and was tweaked in '94 to add specifics for the times.

I'm sure any confiscations would be from warehouses or other large agri-business holdings and not from individuals. Large-scale natural disasters or attacks on the nation might result in wide-spread hunger, so there may be an entirely legitimate use for this part of the law in the future (God forbid).

hey owl, hows it feel to be full of sh$t!!. this post needs to be deleted, not the right time for this political bs. u.p.r.r. conductor gary eugene green p.s. proud american looking for new tribe, don't want to hang out with the right wing lying bs'er .

+1 slowday.

But I'm not singling out 'preppers' here: a lot is the fault of journalists who are either incapable of writing a headline, or intentionally miswrite one to get attention for the article.

Case in point - and on the AP newsfeed, of all places - was a headline stating the Smithsonean was closing galleries due to the sequester. In fact, they were taking down a couple of free exhibits.

Seraphim..agree completely about the "journalists" out there that twist the facts to raise hackles with a dog whistle but mainly it's to make them more money. For some it's higher ratings or more books sold and this case it may be more sales of freeze-dried foods.

No need to apologize for singling out....the title of the topic is "Preppers" and there's a very good chance that the original post was in response to what was seen on one of their sites.

PS: for fairness let me add "administration spin" to the first paragraph...LOL

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press...order-national-defense-resources-preparedness This is the order, read it and decide for yourself.
As for you RRG53, when one has no argument they resort to calling names and pathetic anger.
Whether you like it or not conversation about the things that impact us all is positive. Good luck
in your search for a site where everyone agrees with your views.

You'll notice it was signed over a year ago. Hot topic. No fancy headline though...how did it attract your interest? We realize this is the off topic and chit-chat corner of the forum but how does this impact the majority of van and other RV dwellers in the remotest way? How many of us are driving around with a ton of food stashed away?

Aren't there enough sites out there you can post on that more closely fit your views?

hey owl, not the time to be hearing (your) crap . and just after boston?, gary

This is outside the scope of even the off-topic section. We'll let it go now.

Edited for clarity.

We can generally discuss things, and even disagree, without offending each other. Not a prepped, but I can understand the concerns of those who are, and the topic is of a concern to some van dwellers. But if you don't wish you to hang with any one here, RRG53, I can understand, and you know where the door is. Wouldn't want to force you to be among people you have no desire to be with.

there is a prepping discussion going on in another thread. that is a good place to discuss it. the political aspects do not need to be covered here.
