Hi all! I have about 7 years until empty nest. I find myself binge watching YouTube to see the latest way to be free! I love the van life but I don’t think I can afford. So I drift to RV life... still maybe out of my reality. So, I see travel trailers. Not ideal for my vision but maybe the only realistic way for me to get out there some day. I’m in my early 40s and just staring out the window and down the road. I wouldn’t trade mom life for anything in the world. However, I’ve chosen single life so I need to plan what to do with me the day my last birdie flies away. I’m joining to get some tips and tricks on how to start with nothing. I will need a job I can take with me and I’m clueless. But most importantly I’ll need a good network of friends to enjoy. For now, I’ve rekindled my love for camping and will do trips when I can but boy is that work, lol! I look forward to not setting up tents, lol. Here’s hoping I’ve joined a community that will help drive my dreams into reality! And here’s to freedom by 50! -Jadel

Many seasonal jobs come with housing, so you could save money while doing a few months somewhere you would enjoy traveling.

Welcome Jade! I’m dreaming too. I have 22 months left, but I was where you are and I know the angst to become free! Watch the videos and make lists of things you need, etc. Lots of great information here.

Walt Disney had a group of Designers he called "Imagineers" when he was between making cartoon movies and building Disney Land. Their slogan was that, "if you can imagine it you can do it". But the story wasn't that simple as Walt had a brother Roy, who handled a lot of making Walt's crazy dreams come true....especially when it came to finance. Another famous pair of brothers like the Disney's was J H Kellogg and his brother WK Kellogg who helped put together the Battle Creek Health Resort called the Sanitarium. (like Disneyland but for health) The point here is to put a program together it will require finance and capable help with some knowledge & experience. You have time to put these things in place here and now including the resources & information contained here at CRVL.

You could also take courses online now and get certifications that could get you work on the road where you could sustain your travels or jobs where you work for a period on and then have time off to travel about. Depending on your skills, and what you like doing you can find such online training free. Put a website/resume together with photos of you working at various jobs, have some business cards printed with your name, website URL, and cell number.

But one of the key resources you will need is a good dependable vehicle with good tires and have checked over before you go on along journey in it.

If you have a car, you may want a trailer hitch and a small camper trailer of 13 to 16 ft length. Scamp makes them of fiberglass and the roofs aren't prone to leaking like so many others.

Remote working is only growing thanks to covid, but it existed before. You can look into being hired as a remote employee, or look into freelancing, or other options. I will say freelancing is especially hard to get in to because theres a lot of entry level competition. But once you are going it should be solid. But it depends on what kind of job you want. Theres a lot of options out there. Theres a chance whatever you do now can be transferred to online some way.
