Because it is pressurized, it cooks hotter than I had expected, not much difference from white gas when boiling water.

How well does it simmer though!

That might be of no consideration to you if all you're doing is reheating food from home or boiling water for tea but being able to bring a stove down to a real low simmer is one thing that means a lot to me.

I find out in the bush it's the difference between the pressurized canister stoves that a lot of my friends use and the Trangia I have. Well, that and the noise

Great conversion!  Do you "sense" any spirits riding along with you?

New guy here,  here is a pic of my ambulance I have been converting to a camper.

Baloo,

Question about your electric. I noticed you have a dozen, of what appears to be relays inside your box. Could you share what those are and what they control?

The relays are setup so I can control all the box lighting from the cab, they allow me to use a negative switched circuit so no wires can short out between the cab and the box since there is no positive power in that wire harness. Also it allows me to run smaller wires since the relays use hardly any power. All the heavy amperage switching is done by the relay.

I have owned the ambo for ten years, and never once had an uncomfortable spiritual feeling in it. When people ask me how I feel about having a truck people died in, I remind them loves were saved as well. Most importantly it saved me by providing years of things to keep me out of the pub and under the hood with spanners.

Oh man, does denatured alcohol burn way better than isopropyl!

COOL! And you can buy it at the Hardware store.

I've never tried isopropyl but I hear it doesn't burn as cleanly either.

Is it labelled 'denatured alcohol' in the states or is it called 'Methyl Hydrate', which is what it's labelled here.

W/M in Canada doesn't carry it anymore, I get mine at Home Depot.

I found decanting the gallon size into the quart size to be much easier in terms of pouring it into my travel container for backpacking purposes and for pouring directly into the stove reservoir. A whole lot less spillage.... :)

This sounds like a good idea. ;)

WalMart here used to carry (and may still, I haven't looked) Denatured Alcohol in the paint section, where the thinners are. Isopropyl is too high in water content.

Kind of curious as to whether E85 is too denatured to use in a stove. That stuff was under $2 at the pump in colorado. 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline might be a touch to flammable for an alcohol stove.

Here's a thread on WhiteBlaze that discusses this subject:

Personally, I like my Trangia stove way too much to try it. I'll stick to methyl hydrate TYVM.

What a weekend, installed new front tires on the ambo and started the rear bumper mount install. Still have to install the horizontal c-channel and take it all back apart to paint.

Maybe in the future! Installed the FedEx truck bumper today, a little short on the ends. Nothing the welder can't fix!
Those axles would be nice though.  I think the stealth advantage might disappear at that point though.
The bumper looks better than what you had.

Took a little trip in the ambo...
