One of the first things i thought about when the typhoon came was how lucky are the van dwellers. Anyone have those thoughts? As the typhoon was raging i was thinking about that. Everyone with a rolling home just up and drove out of state. No loss. No damage. Anyone here excaped Houston?

Nice to hear from you! Hope all is well!

And yet one mobile dweller made the news when he did not leave in time and lost everything he owned when his camper blew off his truck. I believe he said he didn't have enough money to buy fuel to get away. So besides having wheels one must have money for fuel and and accurate weather knowledge. I like to think that all the remaining mobile dwellers move to the safety of the interior of the state.

The only difference between van dwellers and the homeless is that we have bigger shopping carts.

One big advantage that van dwellers have when such a situation develops is that you don't have to waste time running around collecting all your important stuff -- you already have it on board.

And stay out of the casinos.  I worked with a guy (he wasn't around long) who was somewhere in hurricane country several years back.  He didn't have money for gas to get out because he had donated it all to the tribes.  Earlier, he had bragged that he knows nearly every casino in the U.S.  Great.  Really great.  :s :-/ :dodgy:
