License Plate Surveilance

Massachusetts is implementing the pay by plate system and will mail you a ticket if you don't have the EZ pass,  there was an article in the paper when the first toll booth switched over to this system,  people were being fined in the thousands of dollars for late payments on $3 fines.  Wish people would protest this kind of stuff instead of what's all over the news now.

Maybe it will just be simplest to have an EZ pass on your vehicle.  That way you'll never hear from them.

I would suspect most couldn't disappear simply because they wouldn't know how to get by without a cellphone, credit cards, computer, etc. Frankly, the best way for those who need to disappear is to buy someone else's information and SS#  online and just start using it. The system is so slow and half of those working in the system hardly do their job that it takes a full 3 years before they catch on. Switch identity every 2 years and they'll never catch up.

I personally know this because my employer put a SS# that had the wrong last digit into the system. Because my sister and I got our SS#at the same time it just so happened that the wrong SS# my employer put in was hers instead of mine. So 3 years later she gets a letter from the IRS about not claiming income. It was reported to the police who said they would investigate it and call my employer. Never called...ever. Didn't do their job and probably didn't care a whit. Eventually I figured it all out when I went online one day and noticed my income wasn't showing. Within 2 days I had it all figured out and the police and federal government were clueless. YUP! Just snag a SS# and run with it and they'll never catch up. I suspect you could just make up any number that comes to you and use it. The fact that I was male instead of female, that I was older, and that the names couldn't have been more different raised no flags whatsoever. Oh and my father was an IRS agent for over 30 years and I know how their system works and it works at a glacial pace.

Do the reader work with out of state plates? Say the toll is in CA and my address is in MT. I thought each state DMV was separate.

Don't really know how much info the different DMVs share, but I will note that in the case of the NY bridges referred to in the article, probably way more than half the cars crossing those bridges have Jersey plates, so clearly they couldn't be doing this if there wasn't some sharing going on.

Mass also said they drafted laws to make it illegal to use the automated plate readers for anything other than amber alerts when a child goes missing.  Hoewever, I'm sure they use it for other means and just don't announce it as the way they made the big drug bust or what have you.  That was "the random pull over" I keep reading more and more about.

Whether or not MA is obeying their own laws, I'm quite sure that Homeland Security and the FBI have access and don't care what the state law says.

Interesting subject. Does anybody know how many States, or municipalities have these toll roads? Does one EZ pass cover all of them, or do you have to buy a separate one for every toll road? How much do they cost?

The Wikipedia article shows that it is used extensively from New England to as far west as IL and as far south as NC.

It also mentions that the Feds are pushing for one toll system for ALL federal highways nationwide.

Not sure about all states; but know that at least some states have a reciprocity agreement for ez pass holders from other states ...

Didn't read thru this all, a few of the responses just made me sad. Each and everyone of you break the law multiple times in a day. You can pretend all you want that you're not a "criminal" and have nothing to worry about. Whatever gets you to sleep at night.

There was an act of congress signed into law in Oct 26, 2001. Wont name it because I am afraid of getting political. This wasn't the start of such actions, but that specific one was a freedom buster.

I was given my life and my rights by an authority that dwarfs any on earth. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

"We The People" need to rise up enmasse and demand this process be stopped. We here in Tallahassee, Florida did that with the stupid and illegal "traffic light camera" system. Got it cancelled. That was local, sure. But scale it up to the State and Federal level as needed. Saying "I have nothing to hide" is woefully shortsided. Innocent folks get fined, jailed and screwed every day.
The lawmakers WORK FOR US, it is high time we remind them of that fact.
No, this isn't a "political" post, just common sense and a call to stop playing the victim. We can get this abuse stopped, IF we work together.

Have you ever known a law to be used only for what the original intent was? Me neither.

This isn't about being caught by law for breaking a law.

This isn't about "them" knowing what your license tag is...

This is about how "THEY" can know where YOU and I are at any given time with this surveillance.

The UT computer system can track all of us all the time....

they probably do already with cell pings and NAV use... but now they really have "eyes" on us.

Add this to the CDC wanting to authority (they asked, did they get it?) to stop ANYONE from crossing a State line just in case they suspect us of carrying a communicable disease, apprehending us (kidnap?) and holding us for this purpose AND administering drugs for the disease they SUSPECT we might have. HUH? Orwellian for sure.

get your facial reconition pattern or voice pattern and hit search .............

There you are , with them watching you through the nearest camera , they then have your gps location of your exact location and so then they trigger the nearest remote controlled nano tech drone to crawl up your leg to do further detective work , it never ends.

It is sad. And might I add, Freedom is an illusion. We are not truly free until we dispose of our DL, SS#, birth certificate, all deeds and title to property, and federal currency aka federal debt.

In England, (UK) there are 4,900,000 cameras.  One for every 14 people.  

It is a major crime to own or transport a knife more than 4 inches long without a verifiable reason. 

They drink about 17 drinks a week average.

I do have it.  I've had it for years.   Who wants to stop at tolls anyways?    You can set how much they take out of your account.  So mine is set for $50, when it gets down to $10 it automatically deducts $50 more.  I got it back when I still rode a motorcycle as it was always a pain paying tolls on a bike.  

Works in any state, never have to worry about if you have cash or not.  and in Mass you get a discount on the toll for using it.

TX has TxTag (and within Texas, Houston's EZ Tag and Dallas's TollTag)
UT has ExpressPass

States that don't have toll roads:
AR, AZ, CA, HI, IA, MI, MO, MS, MT, NV, OR, ND, NE, NM, RI, SD, TN, VT, WI, WY.

AK has one toll-tunnel to the town of Whittier (a dead-end), but nowhere else.

I'll be staying in the southwestern U.S.
