Down in the south it gets hot. You risk severe damage to a pc by leaving it in a car in the hot sun. What kind of solutions do you all have experience with in helping protect your electronics fom the heat while you are away from your vehicle?

You can wrap well and out of direct sun. Cool off before using. This should keep you in good shape.

James AKA Lynx

I leave my laptop in my van all day.

It stays in a padded laptop bag, in the back, well away from any sun.

It never feels hot to the touch, and has not had any problems.

It would have to become VERY hot to melt the components.

They can handle plenty of heat.

I keep mine in a pelican case out of the sun when not in use. protects it from the dust from off highway driving also. highdesertranger

Having also been a land surveyor for many years in south Florida, Our data collectors usually sat on the front seats in direct sun or in a holder on the tripod, in the sun, turned on, and in use. Never had any problems. Data collectors are like computers, they may have been made a little tougher, but I'm sure many surveyors carry their laptops with them everyday, have not heard of any problems. Dust is the biggest problem. Duane
