I have several other threads in the Capt's Log forum, but since this doesnt fit into any of those, I started a new one here. I just spent 4 days in the Cahoutta NF about 20 miles west of Dalton , Ga. I was joined by my wife Trish, Cuzzin Dick, and Karl. Furry critters were our Golden, Sandy, and Dicks puppy, Lacy. Temps were in the mid to upper 40's with rain and lows in the mid to high 20's, so the campfire was a good friend to be cherished and nurtured! When the rain let up for a day and we were able to go for a 4-5 mile
walk along one of the forest service roads. Cell service was only 1 bar in camp (enough to get and send a text) and 3 bars up the hill for keeping in touch if you had Verizon, though no 3g for internet. The campsites are located on pocket road in Shugar Valley. Thee are paid campsites with services about 3 miles up the road, but the 8 sights we stayed in are on both sides of the road on a nice stream. No facilities , but the free price is right up my alley! A fish and game officer came and checked on us our first night , and we saw him drive bye twice more during our stay. All in all , a nice stay, and a great New Years camping experiance.
