Have you seen the Quest? The inside is tiny compared to a full sized van. That said, you can probably find a Quest on Craigslist for $2000 or a little more with no trade. Like this one:

There are lots more for that price or less. 90s minivans are a dime a dozen in Cali.
Then again, I'm a bit prejudiced against that particular mini van, as my boss had one that nearly killed me. The engine overheated, then completely seized with me in the fast lane on the 405. No shoulder, no power steering, no power brakes- it wasn't pretty. If you do decide to go with a Quest, make extra sure that it doesn't get too hot when idling. This one had been to a local mechanic 3 times and still had issues with the cooling system in heavy traffic. Even though there was no traffic that day, I was watching the temp like a hawk and watched it go from 'OK' to "YOU'RE SCREWED" in the space of a few seconds. Not saying that all Quests have that issue, of course, just advising caution on any vehicle with a history of overheating.
