highdesertranger,

I was speaking about" their actual scientific classification," and did not take as you implied anything to support my statement.

Furthermore I consider wiki as a unreliable source for actual scientific data information.

I never said that they do not eat berries etc. but was speaking "scientifically about their classification," and the fact that their are scavengers.

If you enjoy eating scavenger animals, it is not my intent to change your mind. But others here may not know this fact and wish not to.

Also on a biblical level they are listed as unclean, i.e. scavengers. https://www.ucg.org/bible-study-too...h-about-clean-and-unclean-meats/which-animals

Bears are perambulating garbage cans.

Diesel4Life: "My larger 41.5 will do 19-Qts every 90-minutes."

HUH? Once it finally comes up to temp/pressure, then you start counting the 90 minutes for quarts. Then you have to remove it from the heat, and let it cool down gradually, which takes an hour or more before you can remove the lid.

So where are you getting this "every 90 minutes"???

TrainChaser,

LoL, I love your description, "bears are perambulating garbage cans." and incredible accurate as well.

Sounds to me like your a fellow canner, I wave my jar grabber to you in honor.

My apologies for not going into more extreme details, I was speaking in terms of the actual processing time. When I am canning large game as I mentioned I have 4 canners. And decades of experience uses this specific brand. I love canning and once my setup is going am quite the machine.

I'm offering all the free pork you can eat.

Last couple of nights  I set out one of my old game cameras to see if it still works.
Didn't set the correct date or time.

Pork goes good with venison sausages.

Gojo: "I'm offering all the free pork you can eat."

I'm not seeing any state, location address, or time of availability.

Diesel4Life: "I have 4 canners"

Okay, I misunderstood. Also, this poster is fainting with envy.

BTW, did you see this Do Not Do This at Home article about a Seattle attorney who took so many 'shortcuts' while canning elk meat that he nearly killed himself? http://nwnewsnetwork.org/post/home-canning-hobby-leads-near-fatal-medical-mystery

South Texas, do you have traps? Have you ever hunted a feral hog. They're very smart, best way is trapping.

I have hunted large and small game, I think hunting large game in a vandwelling situation is impractical to put it politely. I suggest becoming a vegan vandweller , it makes life simpler, chaeper and you get to live more of it, in better condition.

Well, FB, I appreciate the courtesy.  In any case, I think I've figured out how I will do it.  I'll let folks know how it works out.  I appreciate your suggestion, but have no plans to become a vegan, whether as a vandweller or a home dweller.

Flying Kurbmaster,  After some more thought, I have to admit that being a vegetarian would be simpler.   FWIW.  But I was a vegetarian back in the early 70's for about 3 years.
I did drink milk, and ate eggs, sometimes fish.   Not as strict as vegans are now.   It may be the wiser move.  BUT, I love my turkey and chicken breasts and Bison meat.

Obviously, some adjustments will be called for.   You did give me something to consider.

So, thanks!

I'm not knocking people that want to be vegan by any means, but why do vegans always try and push it on others? Meat eaters don't seem to push their agenda.

Studies show both lifestyles to be better/healthier so which one actually is....who knows. I personally know a few people that have tried it and not fared well healthwise. However, if I had the definitive answer that I could eat meat the rest of my life and die 10 years sooner than if I ate vegan, I'd still choose meat. I enjoy it and want to enjoy whatever time I have on this earth doing what I enjoy.

Because it's like religion. Many people find something new and want to shove it down everyone's throat.

I've certainly experienced that as well.  I've certainly been called a MURDERER enough that  when someone tells me that being a vegan is the best/healthiest/earth-friendly/etc choice that I generally tune it out.

In this case, after consideration , I realize that if I'm out BFE for 2 weeks, NOT having to take care of meat would be easier.  But, for me, it would not be a lifestyle choice, it would be for the time period when  I am out in BFE for 2 weeks!   Once I get near a Texas Steakhouse, I would not be just eating the Steak Fries.

I'm thinking it might be easier... during that period.  And , most importantly, I'm just starting to plan for this "Drive About" I plan to spend the rest of my life doing.  So, I have been looking for advice/guidance/suggestions from the experts here.... at this point, I'm willing to consider most anything... (I did say MOST )
:)

While reading this whole thread, on the question of what to do about the extra meat obstacle, I kept thinking about other vandwellers.

Maybe events like RTR are in the wrong place to allow this to happen.  However, if other group events took place close enough to hunting areas, wouldn't it be nice to come back to a group gathering after a successful hunt, work on prepping the meat together, and then share it with everyone who wants some, with no waste?

Now that's starting to sound like a tribe ... and a pretty good solution to me.

A bit off subject but I have a Texas Roadhouse 200 yards from my front door. The manager lets me park my mobility scooter in a cubby hole and sit at the bar with my weekly dose of steak or prime rib. I asked him once if they had changed suppliers, my prime rib had no marbleing. I ate it tho. He came back as I was leaving and gave me 40 dollar gift card. Wasn't needed or asked for but I thought it was a nice touch

Vagabond has a great idea.

Gunny should learn how to read.....

No biggie.  Everybody on the blog was doing the same thing, too.  Took them a while to get the hang of it after a while of me pointing it out.  Like I mentioned at that time, there is another member here called "Vagabond" (normal spelling).  Not sure if active or not, but still.

Isn't it funny how all of us tend to respond based on what we think we see?  Should make us all more careful in life, and less polarized, knowing just how often we can get it wrong.

TrainChaser:  The article about the guy who gave himself botulism from canned elk meat -- thanks a bunch!  Excellent article and learning experience for me.
