Dometic CC-40US

Any one gone deep on the new Dometic CC-40US?  It is at an attractive price point.  First glance looks like it is lighter compressor.  Reliability MIGHT be okay given the smaller size.  It is competitively priced at approx $100 less than the similarly sized classic Dometic and the Whynter.  Engel is more competitive at this point as well.

I wonder at the capacity of this 'lightweight compressor'
The Sawafuji and danfoss compressors in a sub 2 cubic foot cool box are like having 400HP sports car in use as a grocery getter.  Unfortunately they are usually underventilated and cannot expunge the heat removed from the box as well as they could had there been the intent to really make something efficient.
Add to that the user/installer usually occluding the venting, or forcing it to work in an overheated vehicle, and then one needs 400HP and more battery and charging sources to power it and is underwhelmed at its performance.
When the condenser is force fed with coolest possible ambient air, and not allowed to recycle air it itself has preheated, the compressor does not have to work as hard or for as long to do the job asked of it.
I like having 400HP, and only ever asking it to deliver 75.  I wonder if this 'light weight' compressor would be like having 200HP and needing 150 of it to go get those groceries.
I guess time will tell.

Where did you find it? Prices have been going up since the original introduction - Amazon is currently at $647.  I saw them in the $300's, which is my budget.  There are also unbranded items on EBay but it isn't clear if they are Dometics or just look alikes, and there is no manufacturer warranty listed.

Personally, I'm not comfortable with a "light-weight compressor" and a measly 12 month warranty.  I'm holding onto my RTIC cooler until I can get something more substantial.  But it has good reviews!

True enough!  

btw, I noticed the new CFX Dometics have a two year warranty.  The Engel, National Luna and ARBs are three years.  Something to consider when making a big investment like this.

i've been eyeing these as well.  i was surprised to find that the larger compartment is the "freezer" section, and the smaller section is not as cold.  is that how yours is, and how does that work out for you?

I look forward to your review!  These are certainly an economical choice, so anxious to hear how you like it and, more importantly, how it does on power consumption.

PS:  There seems to be a bit of a "revolution" in 12 volt compressor fridges -- a lot of competition for the $800 ARBs -- also evidenced by the deep discounts on Engels.  Either competition is heating up, or they are dropping the quality (I hope it's the former).

I notice in Bob's new build video that he no longer had the Whynter and was using an older Dometic - in a space designed to vent properly.

I sold the Whynter with my cargo trailer, but it was working perfectly when it left. I believe I had it for 4 years and it was zero problems.

The reason I let it go and switched to the Truckfridge (Indel B) was the Whynter was too big for the van. The Truckfridge was tall and smaller at the base so I fit in a van much better. It was also much cheaper than the others and they had a branch In Tuscon. If it ever needs service, I can take it to them for service.

I actually just got around to purchasing it.  I bought it through Dyers for $335.99 on July 4th, and it arrived today July 6th... Free Shipping too!  Assuming it works, it appears to be an awesome value give that it's about the same price as a CF18.
