Sorry if this has been addressed already but I did a search and came up with one from 2012 only mentioning that Dish satellite has internet. Since this is 2014, I am wondering if anyone out there has experience with using Dish Internet and especially while boondocking. We will be going full time in our motorhome Oct 2014. We have cheap cell phone since we don't talk much on phone and prefer not to buy into expensive phones for internet if we don't have to. We plan on camping in LTVA Imperial Dam, California BLM, which is roughly 15 miles from Yuma, AZ.

I would appreciate input if anyone has used Dish internet (I assume would have to subscribe to their satellite service, as well.

Thanks in advance!

Margo

Margo Dish does not offer mobile Satellite internet.....if you require something with alot of usage Milinacom has a 70 dollar amonth 20G plan no contract.....it is the same service as Verizons(its verizon)

This is the best there is out here right now for the money....I use alot of data and bought everything from virgin mobile, walmart, boost you name it before I jumped on the millinacom bandwagon.

My TV....internet and phone (skype) are now on this system ,I stream TV off it and so forth.....they dont shut you down at 20gigs...they just throttle back and if your in a 4G area its unlimited.

The above link was what I thought would work. I haven't called them about it because I don't trust sales people very much.

Thanks Mike for your response. Are you streaming in movies/TV on your phone or chrome book, or what? I am hardwired at home and use Roku for TV but my husband streams in tv,boxing, movies etc on his Chromebook, but using wireless from my router. I am so used to be hard wired and don't know much about what is out there. :-/

I don't mind paying $70 per month for internet and streaming in tv and movies, I just need internet for paying bills and email, occasional browsing, but will not be working so it doesn't have to be completely stable, just useful.

Thanks.

Margo

all streaming onboard is done thru my WiFi system.....I have not had to many places that I did not have good Service......

I can't say whether the Imperial Dam has internet or not. It is a long way from Yuma. But the LTVAs at Quatzsite all have very good 4g on Verizon. Pilot Knob LTVA is closer to Yuma than Imperial Dam and also very close to Interstate 8 so it has a very good 4g signal. There is an LTVA near Holtville, CA off Interstate 8 which has a great Verizon 4g signal and there is a nice hot springs in Holtville.

No problem at all getting great internet on Verizon. You don't need a smartphone, you want a MIFI that recieves the Verizon signal and rebroadcasts it as WIFI. If you go with Millenicom (which you should) then they will sell you a MIFI device.

Thanks Mike and Bob. And I apologize that I posted this in the wrong sub-forum; I thought I posted in communication forum and not the solar forum. We used to stay at the Imperial Dam LTVA every winter from 2002 through 2006. I put in the Bard CA post office address into the Millenicom MIFI coverage areas (although Yuma Proving Ground is closer but couldn't find the physical address and don't want the Government thinking I am a terrorist or something like that :s ) so I chose Bard post office and found
4G LTE Service: No
3G EVDO Rev-A Service: Yes.

I will need to check further regarding service availability before forking out the money. This gives me research material and I do have some time before we get on the road.

I appreciate your help. Is there anyway I can move my postings to the correct sub-forum? If not, I will chalk it up to experience and choose the correct sub-forum next time.

Thanks to both of you,

Margo

A good resource for this kind of stuff is:

They have a downloadable ebook that goes into internet on the road, including satellite internet; plus updates via their blog as things change.

Thanks John. I have looked at their website and have it in favorites.

Right now I am going to plan on using free wifi at either library or fastfood and play it by ear. When we were out in the desert before we used Dish satellite for TV but if we can get Yuma TV stations we might just go more for the "boondock scenario" and use as many free resources as possible but subject to change. We will be living off of a very low income and will be watching nickels and dimes (and pennies too!).

dish anywhere is not an internet service, their device uses your internet. it is like roko.
There is a satellite internet service, Hughes Net.
Verizon is good but expensive when you start streaming movies at 4G.

Paying for one LTVA will let you stay at any of them. Are you open to staying at the many others that do have great Verizon 4g signal? or does it have to be that one?
